_"The Sopranos"_ and _"The Wire"_ are still my all-time favorite TV shows by far. But yes, _"Babylon Berlin"_ and _"Gomorrah",_ from Italy, are far better than anything that comes out of Hollywood/the US film industry these days. Both are/were made by "Sky" and public film funds. Still, America has the best film industry in the world by far. But by the large quantity, the quality is often lacking. I'm hoping HBO is going to put out another well-made show again. They're the best! They always film their shows were they actually take place. Not inside some Hollywood studios. It's silly when a show like _"NCIS",_ which is taking place in Washington DC and the surrounding area, is being filmed in f**king California!

The singing alone is a masterpiece of mixed metaphors. A woman dressed as a man. A Russian singing in German with a Berliner accent. Then there is the white women doing the banana dance, made famous in Paris by Josephine Baker. The band with influences from American big band to Klezmer. This one scene encapsulates the artistic boiling stew of east and west that made Berlin the nervous beating heart of a people haunted by the horror of empire and serfdom, plus the worst banking system in German history.

@Pele Gacinovic , What do you think is art in video and cinema?
@chestermicek5 жыл бұрын
@Pele Gacinovic , you fail to understand that 2019 America and the rest of the countries in the Industrialized World are in a period of death and uncertainty just as were the 1930's characters in Babylon Berlin. At that epoch, times were so desperate, chaotic and Thanatos -like that all the Germans were high on something. 1930 Berliners worked like hell & partied like hell, in part, so they could defer their attention from the death & destruction that was headed their way. Severija's mad act leads the death waltz to the invasion of Russia. The demise of the 85 IQ, American factory worker & the rise of the robot have put people into the same state of mind. Babylon Berlin is art because it catches the Zeitgeist of 2019. America has Donald Trump, our Hitler figure, & it has our own goon squad, the Red Hats who parallel the "Nazi Brown Shirts". Charlottesville was a presage to our own Krystal Nacht. Furthermore, our "Why Don't We Get Drunk & Screw" and "Bye Bye Miss American Pie" parallel "Zu Asche Zu Staub". Babylon Berlin is art because it is a 1930's like theme which works perfectly in 2019. "Babylon Berlin" is art because it illustrates that history repeats itself endlessly .Like Germany in the 1930's, America in 1919 is headed for an Apocalypse. To quote Don McClain, "It's eight miles high and falling fast." "Bye Bye Miss American Pie".

Love how the melancholy nature of the song and lyrics mix up with the weird costumes and choreography on the stage and the crowd in total bliss. Tolles Musik und Show ...

It took me a little bit to warm up with this show; after watching the first episode I was impressed but not blown away. After completing the second episode though, and listening to this beautiful song (which feels like both late '20s and modern at the same time, maybe a cross between Marlene Dietrich and a bit of Kraftwerk minus the electronics) I think this show is now my most favourite at the moment, and I watch quite a lot of them.

If you are watching this show on netflix, I suggest switching the language from english to german, and using subtitles. The english dub is very poor. This show is a masterpiece

The music, the costumes, the dancing, the acting, the multiple storyline’s, the ability to immerse in this period of time and really lose yourself. Amazing.

@MisterHenNa6 жыл бұрын

Also....rundherum großartig! Macht geradezu süchtig...will mehr davon!
