Hey, thanks, much appreciated! All I can see when I watch the footage back is my wobbly gimbal work and my inexperience with colour grading 😅 But overall I love the image the Bmpcc gives, and filming in RAW gives so much flexibility in the edit to be creative!

@@adventurefilmclub2549 Tbh i dont see a problem with the gimbal use, your handling served the shots as far as I could see. Love my bmpcc og to bits as it really does so much of the heavy lifting for such a small camera.

@@dirtreynolds7723 I stabilised the long tracking shot in post to take the edge off tbh... I learned I need to move waaaaay slower and more precisely. I don't mind a more 'handheld' look though, it adds a certain realness to the mood and tone. I'm amazed that a £600 Mac Mini can handle RAW footage and editing from this camera, the OG footage is just so nice to work with!

I love this lil camera, i feel you, it's intimidating because you have to do basically all manually, but it's awesome, even though I'm planning to buy a Sony, I'll keep this one because it works great.

I'm the same, I might upgrade to the 4K or 6K version at some point, but I'll probably hang on to this camera for its image alone!

Hi, it's a large cairn on the Balmoral Estate in Scotland, built by Queen Victoria after her husband's death. Scotland is great for these types of locations, so ideal for shooting a fantasy esque film!

Great location and good work. I’d ditch the gimbal and shoot the sequence again just on sticks and really nail your cinematic language. Think about the composition of each frame.
@adventurefilmclub2549
@adventurefilmclub2549 Жыл бұрын
I like the idea of using a gimbal for tracking shots etc, but I've really come to see the value of shooting on a tripod or a monopod, and working harder on framing and composition. I was so busy trying to get stable gimbal footage with this shoot I didn't think too much about the actual framing etc, I just pointed it at the action and rolled with it!

How do you color grade? Did you use film emulation or just a regular color grade?
@adventurefilmclub2549
@adventurefilmclub2549 Жыл бұрын
Hey, It's just a standard colour grade using Davinci Resolve colour tools. Basically just apply Rec 709 then tweak the contrast, saturation etc. I leaned into the blues a wee bit. It was my first time colour grading so pretty basic tbh.

@@adventurefilmclub2549 No way it's your first time doing this 😧 you did an amazing job. That first clip of her walking up by the trees looked like a movie (not even exaggerating), and if you don't mind telling what mode/settings you shot with?
@adventurefilmclub2549
@adventurefilmclub2549 Жыл бұрын
@@extendo7137 Thanks very much! Location is everything if you want a 'cinematic' look, and trees are amazing at giving a feeling of depth and movement, so this is a dream location to shoot at. I shot at sunset to get a good lighting angle, and I had the BMPCC set to 24 fps with the shutter angle at 180. I did need a variable ND filter on the lens to get the exposure right. The original BMPCC is limited in low light conditions but it's got such a nice image it's worth it for its technical flaws. ISO was 800, but 400 gives a slightly sharper image in lighter conditions.

Hi, do you think the Sigma fp could match this?
@adventurefilmclub2549
@adventurefilmclub2549 Жыл бұрын
Hey, yeah I reckon the Sigma FP would deliver great results if you're shooting in RAW. I looked at this when buying the bmpcc but my budget made the choice for me, as I got a bmpcc camera, cine lens and gimbal for under 1K. But if budget allows, and your computer processing allows, the Sigma is a great option being full frame, and it'll be better in lower light too. My budget is tight and my computer probably couldn't handle the Sigma file sizes at dngRAW 4K unfortunately! There's something kinda intangible about image quality of the original bmpcc though, maybe as it's 1080p it feels more film like, and less digital. But these days you can get a film look grading raw footage so the Sigma is probably the best bang for your buck, capturing full frame 4K RAW footage! Spencer Sakurai has a great video on the Sigma in relation to Blackmagic cameras: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4qyhIxmbJ6Yr68&feature=shares

I agree with your last shot. No better camera, I have a similar lens, the Rokinon/Samyang 12mm. I don't invest in spare batteries though, I rigged up a Sky battery plate. However I have yet to invest in a gimbal and I really think I should with it having no stabilisation.
@adventurefilmclub2549
@adventurefilmclub2549 Жыл бұрын
I was tempted to upgrade to the 4K before I'd even shot anything on this, but seeing the image quality of this camera I'll definitely stick with it for a few short films at least, and maybe upgrade to the 6K Pro if and when finances allow. I actually have an external monitor that uses huge batteries that I can connect this camera to as an external battery source if necessary, but I figure I just carry 7 or 8 1900mah spare batteries in my pocket to cover most of a day shooting. The gimbal is a must for me, as like you no lens stabilisation, but even with a gimbal my footage still needed stabilisation in post, which can have some annoying consequences for the image! Definitely need to practice gimbal walking...

@@adventurefilmclub2549 good luck on the short films, it never gets used enough for films which is what it’s designed for. I did one using it last year, but I’ve yet to shoot RAW, I just keep expecting it to go wrong if I do! kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6OlmZJpgrV3b7M

If you have your bmpcc rigged out, especially with a V Mount battery, a gimbal is going to be very tough to manage. I have one, and I’ve tried to make it as light as possible, but it’s just too heavy to hold for a long period of time. If you’re intent on getting a gimbal, you can try the arri faux trinity setup…with the vest and stabilizer arm. For now, I practice by shooting handheld and tripod work. I’m also working my way up to shooting with a onewheel. Combining a onewheel with handheld should get you very stable footage.
@rashhuman

@@MockManor that’s a good point. I do have a shoulder rig and an external monitor. I should just practice with that more.
@adventurefilmclub2549
@adventurefilmclub2549 Жыл бұрын
@@MockManor I've managed to keep my setup light by only having the camera and an external monitor attached to the gimbal, works pretty well! Although my arm does get tired after a while! Unfortunately all of my shooting is out in the Highlands of Scotland so not very one wheel friendly... I might be tempted to try a shoulder mount setup though!
