I pretty much hated every day I went to this school. The seemingly endless list of rules, many of them petty beyond belief. A headmaster who relished the task of beating boys such that he would routinely go through the whole school every term end and beat the lowest achievers. He would hide this behaviour behind a very pious exterior relishing his brand of Christianity. Jewish boys and those from agnostic homes were made to line up every morning when they would be allowed to file into the school hall after the Christian worship part of Assembly. They were not permitted to sit. Many of the older members of staff were inadequate to their task and totally uninspiring. We were forbidden to go out of our own homes during term time. Even if we did there was nowhere we could go. Parks, sports grounds, cinemas, certain stores etc were all 'out of bounds'. I've always had a feeling that information regarding those times has been suppressed for some reason and it hastened the decision to demolish the building and a far better co-educational school has been created elsewhere in the own. Todays pupils should be thankful they are able to study in a much more enlightened environment.
