A nice tip I learned to stop any brake fluid leaking when removing calipers / lines, and it works an absolute treat, is to press the brake pedal down and stop it off with a piece of wood about a foot and a half long, secured by the seat. After replacing the caliper, having the brake line dangling for over an hour while I rebuilt it - literally no fluid dripped out at all; there was virtually no bleeding required.. The master cylinder, when the pedal is halfway down, is sealed in and out holding all the fluid in place. No fluid can enter from the reservoir or escape from the lines and consequently no air can be introduced. This technique in fact enables easy one man bleeding without pressure or vacuum - pump the pedal a few times, stop it off while pressed down then crack the bleeder. Repeat a couple of times. Done

I got an advisory last mot for my fronts. It’s a job I’ve been putting off but the mot is booked for next week so I’d better get them done. I was just going to get rubber ones but at the last minute swerved an ordered the same ones you have. Glad I did now after watching your video 😅 I didn’t realise the joints swivelled so that’s good news. I think instead of removing the callipers I’m just going to cut the old ones near the joints. The other benefit of that is a long reach 17mm socket might work instead of a spanner?

mine are so rusty crusty that i will have to replace everything in the rear including new calipers. I will probably route 2 lines of copper nickel lines, paired with rear outer flexible hose tube that is install into the new calipers. I won't use the inner hose because everything seem impossible to be fixed... I think it is just easier at this point to remove everything and install brand new line and caliper, i'll just use the same route

@@GeorgeAusters Thanks, i figured.. My rear driver side caliper is acting up. Just installed new Rotors and pads a couple of weeks ago and now my caliper is sticking. I have cleaned everything and greased up the slidepins and all contact points. Piston seal is good aswell.. Hopefully if i change just the outer hose it will be fine until i get to upgrade all hoses with braded ones...

Will be the piston stuck, calliper needs rebuilding - I have a video on it
@alexandercarlsson2 жыл бұрын
@@GeorgeAusters You were right. I dissasembled the caliper today. Sure enough, it was a ton of gunk in the cylinder and the piston was rusted. When i changed to new pads and rotors the rust on the piston must have went to far inside the cylinder causing it to stick. The seal was looking fine. So this is telling me the other 3 pistons probably needs to be changed too, so i dont have this issue in the future. Brakes are working fine again now, much better than before. Really recomend to change pistons after 100k miles or so. Thank you for your awesome content, it really helps out. I allways check your channel before doing work on my manual E90 330Xi N52.

were the OEM lines braided when u cut them ?
@seanpaul30502 жыл бұрын
This is what most people installing braided lines don't seem to realise. The stock lines are braided too. It's just the braiding is inside the rubber. However in this case it is essential to fit the braided lines because of the rotating end fittings. Trying to fit stock lines again would mean snapping the solid brake pipes, because the nuts are seized on the ends.
@Soim262 жыл бұрын
for the 2 small hoses that you cut, how did you screw the new ones in? as both ends are solid and the nuts are stuck? for the ones to the caliper it seems easy, but i dont get it how you screw them with 2 solid ends, thanks.

@@GeorgeAusters yeah but the brackets over the rear bushings are really tight towards the body of the car so it's tedious to rotate the screws or to get at them with a proper tool.
