Varnos Solenoids are a service item expected to be changed approximately every 50000 kilometers.
Not changing this periodically could cause your engine to idle rough, delayed response to acceleration, loss of power and sometimes error codes when they completely fail.
Varnos Solenoids are located at the front of your engine towards the driver side.
Undo the three bolts, two on both sides at the front and one at the top of the air intake hood. Unclip it from the air filter box and remove it out of the way.
Disconnect the wiring connectors from the Varnos Solenoids after noting their positions. It is very important they are not mixed up when refitting. Undo the retaining brackets by removing the bolts.
Varnos Solenoids often gets stuck to the cylinder head over time, so rotate to release and then pry it out using a pry bar. Pull the Solenoids out once the top oil seal is out of the housing.
Refitting is a reversal of removal but clean the mating surfaces.
Apply a film of new engine oil to the oil seals for easier installation. A considerable amount of pressure is required to push the top oil seal into the housing and using fingers are often not enough. Use a long piece of wood to push it in with your hands standing in front of the car. You will hear them clicking into place and they should sit flush with the engine head if they are properly installed.
Install the retaining brackets and bolts. Tighten the bolts to 9 Newton Meters.
