Hey guys, I’ve been changing my own oil every 6k on the dot. My 2011 528i with the N52 has a solid 220k miles on the odometer. I highly recommend sticking with 6k mile change intervals regardless of what the iDrive says after you reset it. I’ve only ever used Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W-30 as that was the recommended oil when this car was new. The biggest maintenance items I’ve had in 220k miles have been the serpentine belt, starter motor, coolant hoses and valve cover gasket. Aside from the oil I always change my spark plugs and ignition coils every 35k miles and the engine runs like butter. I would like to do the check valves which I already have now for 2 years but on my particular N52 the heat shields make it very hard to access the 2 check valves on the passenger side of the engine. People completely underestimate the lifespan of a BMW with a proper service history.

0W-20 is too thin for engine protection. That oil I believe is entirely for fuel economy. That's why the BMW oil is called "FE". You need to get at least 0W-30.

5.5 quarts or 5.25 liters. 8mm socket or wrench, 17mm socket, 27mm socket, door, plug, cap in that order.

The panel above the filter comes off simple pop off, should help clearing space to get at it / Big fan 💪🏼😊👍🏼

I definitely wanna get into doing my own maintenance and modding to my car and this channel has really helped me see that even though BMWs are complex and somewhat daunting they are also definitely workable. I had a question concerning wheels and suspension. So at some point in the future, I want to change my suspension to racing coil-overs and also get some lighter and more aggressive wheels. once you have changed them how do you truly know if you optimally adjusted them to improve the sportiness? Also, do you take them to a shop to get them laser aligned? I was also wondering what your thoughts were on getting stiffer sway bars in addition to the racing colors. Would you ever think about adding them to either of your cars? I currently drive a 2017 330i xdrive wagon and totally love it. I can't wait to upgrade her and truly see her capability. Sorry about the long comment im just really curious.

0w20 not enough for the engine to keep wear of Fe & Cu low. Use Mobil ESP 0w30.

Had the same issue as you. I couldn’t get the filter back on so put the filter in first then put the cap on top. The repair manual says to attach it to the cap first. Anyone knows if it makes any difference?

Hello, do you know what normal operating temperature the car reaches? Coolant and oil temperature? I ask you because I have a 2017 330i and my car reads 230 degrees Fahrenheit in both temperatures.

It’s pretty low but I also hand thread it as much as possible (highly recommend because you could cross thread without realizing if you use a tool). After hand threading I go back with the tool and just make sure it’s snug

@@ayyyman_ Does the electronic meter ever display any thing other than "max" level? I put in 5 qts, still says max. If you do 6 qts, it would be close to overfill if not already.

@@ZoneCrasher very good question…. I personally never had it say anything different but I always put in the “correct” amount. My friends has shown something other than max though when we knew his car was leaking oil so to my knowledge, the meter does work

@@AjgorYTG Use 5w40 synthetic. 0w20 is the recommendation but it causes a lot of low mileage issues with chain guides and tensioners.

@@edward1927 I am not sure, I watched the Japanese film in which the engineer explained why you should use 0W20 for supra oil to these engines. Many people advise 5W30, but it seems that these Japanese engineers may know something ... I also know the BMW user who uses 0W20 and has traveled 80,000 km. No problems and the engine is doing well. I don't know anything, I try to gain this knowledge.
