I have a 330i M Sport with pretty much all the options, including adaptive suspension, laser lights, etc. Mine is a 2019 so doesn't suffer from the chip-shortage strip-out of desirable features. I think it's all the car you need in almost all circumstances on the road. I say this from a background of owning many high-performance and luxury cars over three decades (I still have a supercharged Jaguar XF which I'm loathe to part with). I didn't buy it for track days. I wanted that Goldilocks car - something not too big for town use, well built, civilised to ride in, economical to run and safe - but still great fun to drive. I tried the obvious suspects - Audi A4, Mercedes C300, Jaguar XE, Alfa Giulia Veloce - I might have have bought the Alfa if it wasn't for the residuals (I've wasted a lot of money on Italian cars over the years). The BMW seemed well ahead on a broad range of considerations, and I've been very pleased with the choice I made. My only real grumble is that the ride is too hard around town even in Comfort. I had expected the Adaptive mode to make it more supple (and I still don't understand why Adaptive can't be made the default mode on start-up!). I blame this partly on the run-flat tyres (P Zeros on my car). In Sport(+) it's great on smooth surfaces but too hard if you're pressing hard on bumpy bends and corners as there isn't enough compliance to prevent some skip and vertical movement in the suspension. Jaguar does this better. The only other gripe is that I still haven't got used to the main instrument panel and backwards rev counter. It lacks the finesse and customisation of Audi and Mercedes. Those things apart, I think it is indeed 'almost perfect'.

I use it to drive it to work .. and my wife uses it to drop kids and to take it shopping etc. we have only one car.. this is so good, puts a smile on my face everyday … I have to say that you need to get the one with adaptive suspension… that makes it sooo comfortable on bad roads. And for bonus, it’s quite silent on freeways

Enjoyed the review and note your comment about the G series chassis. If you can convince your dealer have a test drive in an M240i - it’s an absolute flying machine and is based on the G series chassis too, however before I give you my thoughts on the comparison to my M2C it would be good to hear how you felt it performed. Cheers, Kevin.

Thanks Kevin. I’m hoping to get 2 series at some point. G series gives a lot confidence on the road but it’s not M2. They might be quicker but to me it’s not about speed. I like the drama.

Since you are not a race car driver, that explains why you don't know how to launch a car. The 330i is a turbo car, so to launch a turbo car, while depressing and holding the brakes raise the RPM to allow the turbo to build pressure. Once the turbo has built pressure release the brakes. This will launch the car and you will get that awe you are looking for and the "G" force will pin you to your seat
