1. Brake fluid flush time is a good time to check brake pad thickness. The radial groove on the pad should be visible, if not it's time for new pads. 2. What almost all fluid change videos miss is that the caliper is full of fluid and simply pumping fluid through it, or sucking it through, may not fully replace fluid in the caliper, which is where new fluid is most needed. To accomplish that, push the brake pads and caliper pistons to the full retract position and place something between the pads to keep them far apart. The proceed as usual; remove the spacer when done. 3. Do not forget to top up the master cylinder fluid reservoir after bleeding each wheel.

i wonder if this is still the right way of bleeding the brakes?

Its not. Air can get back in.

What size hose on the bleeder valve?....and thanks for the videos...I just did my thermostat and water pump from watching your video, and you weren't kidding about those sway bar bolts, they were awful lol....thanks again
@yogi7994 жыл бұрын
oh gosh i don't remember. grab a couple short ones from the store and fit the smallest one that will go on the valve. that's it. you're welcome, glad it's helped.

Where do you get the plactic tube
@yogi7993 жыл бұрын
Any store other than Walmart.
@123Hasse4 жыл бұрын
Should you not close the caliper every time you lift the brake pedal? You risk sucking the air in this way.
@yogi7994 жыл бұрын
no, because you are not sucking anything in (and your old fluid in the tube prevents any air from getting back in). if you watch what is happening, you are only expelling stuff and new fluid is being sucked in from the fluid reservoir under the hood.
@123Hasse4 жыл бұрын
@@yogi799 Sorry, but I don´t agree. The risk are that you suck in air in the thread of the hollow screw and therefore should close it, before lifting the pedal.
@dylan-nguyen4 жыл бұрын
Lasse Eklund that's not true. if the hose is sealed on the bleeder valve (you can use a hose clamp to be extra sure) and the other end of the hose is submerged in liquid, air cannot get into the system. it is physically impossible. the air cannot go past the fluid in the external bottle. when a vacuum happens when you release the brake, some old fluid may go back up. but since you're flushing all of it, eventually only clean fluid will be in the tube. this is a common diy way to bleed brakes. you may lookup other videos showing this same method
@alaind8312 жыл бұрын
@@dylan-nguyen that assumes you have a perfect seal with the tube/plug and didn't open it too far and gotten a leak at the thread either... as air is easier to push than liquid. see kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXKuc419btCEhtk. I see many videos of trained DIY close before each release for that reason... but it is much more time consuming. I'm getting very little liquid each time (2014 528i) so I may try that, or look into a power assisted way. I have a foxwell 510E so there might be a way to activate the ABS pump and flush it out that way... The prius uses the ABS pump for the 2 rear so it takes no time!

does it matter which wheel you start on first?
@joseurbaez88694 жыл бұрын
lsturbointeg supposed to be the farthest wheel first. Passenger rear->driver rear->passenger front->driver front. Really should use a power bleeder though to ensure you don’t get air in the lines
@Sonin664 жыл бұрын
@@joseurbaez8869 the first part is correct but I've also heard it doesn't matter any more because the brake lines could be any sort distance even though I still use what you posted
@Sonin664 жыл бұрын
I also use the method shown in the video because its easier as long as you have a second person to help push the pedal
