The BMW 5 Series GT was supposedly a car designed without compromise -- to offer the space of a 7 Series but the dynamics of a 5 Series. However, in reality, the cumbersome BMW doesn't drive very well and has a smaller boot than the 5 Series saloon. From the back seats, though, it offers unrivalled comfort and a commanding view of the road -- and if you opt for the four-seat Executive package, you get a pair of reclining rear seats allowing ultimate comfort on longer journeys. Looks divide opinion, and even in sporty M Sport trim the boxy dimensions and high roofline look awkward. Avoid the large petrol motors, though, and the 5 GT should be relatively affordable to run.

I bought a 535i gt xdrive 2 months ago and I am falling in love with it, comfortable ride, very tight in the roads, luxury interior, space for every thing, I totaly own the roads!

yup it is an awesome car, I am totally in love with it. you will never go wrong with driving a 535 gt. Btw people who says its ugly looking, they haven`t really seen it in person I think.

+minityper I own a 535i GT and absolutely love it. I bought it new in 2013. I agree, let ppl not get past the exterior because it keeps the style fresh. And NOTHING beats the ride. Best car i`ve ever owned by far.I love not many out there.

Great car, have owned for years and no complaints. Wife loves this car. Lots of interior room and amazing gas mileage. My only critique is that the steering is borderline too light and too tight for the average performance oriented driver. Much lighter than my 2008 BMW 328iC. That said, my wife does not care for my ride's equally tight but heavier steering. Her GT is the ultimate grocery getting children's taxi and marching band baritone transport. :)

It depends. BMWs name for four wheel drive is Xdrive. Standard car is rear wheel drive.

Sorry ppl, but you don't have any idea what is to own a 5 GT, this car is a cruiser not a sports BMW and by the way, lugagge space is bigger than a 5 series, all you have to do is to pull the back seats forward, that's it from a space of 7 series becames 5 series space, with 690liters of lugagge, try to fit that in a 5 series.

Easily out-handles other cars of that size and weight when you engage the sport mode! My dad has one and I've given it the beans, it handles really well (I haven't tested the regular F10 5 series though).

I like Carbuyer as they get to the point of their likes and dislikes and always end it with "Leaving it in your hands". We were looking at the X6 and thanks to their review we avoided it. It looks great but all the negatives they spoke about where so true, we passed right by that suv. I have to say that carbuyer does a great job of explaining the cars they review better than most reviewers as they review it in the light that you will live with the car. They are right.

the BEST car BMW ever made to satisfy people with two carseats for kids and need lots of rear room for them, Easy to put them in and out also for the parents. plus if you buy the GT 550i YOU OWN THE ROAD too. So you don't like IT don't buy it! Its not for YOU.

I'm surprised that this car which was released in 2009 is only just being reviewed by Carbuyer. Perhaps you should be reviewing the 3 series GT which is being released by the end this year instead.

+Xinyu Feng If its the x drive version its all wheel drive, otherwise it its rear wheel drive. X drive is an option box that needs to be ticked when ordering new.

This car sits much lower and has much better aerodynamics than an x5 and yet nobody complains about body roll in the x5. Why does this car do worse than an SUV round the corners?

Nice that they copied the Skoda Superb II Twindoor for the tailgate, now if they could copy the luxurious rear legroom and boot space. But it's coming along.

If you want to know how a car fares when used for a military beach storming, being parachuted from a cargo plane or used on a race track at break neck speed you can always watch top gear. I don't think CarBuyer has quite the same budget though so they have to talk about places to stick your banana.

Oh complain complain complain... It's a great car which ever way you look at it. If you want a car with sporty road holding over size and comfort, get the regular 5 series. This car is not for everyone... if you're not the target buyer, don't bash it.

There are more BMWs than any other luxury brand in the city where I live but I never see these GTs anywhere. People buy the regular 5 Series like it's toilet paper though.

I´m sorry but I really don´t not like this BMW much, it´s so big and I find the GT badge rather confusing (Grand Tourer) but I think most people will make the assumption to something with Sport (GT) GTS etc. For this size it should almost have been a 7 seater. It´s okay if you have a family, but so is a 5 series and that looks and drives better. So who will buy this I wonder? - older people comes to my mind. Is has no sporty appeal or elegance, it´s just very (too) big - not BMW DNA in my head.
