Thanks for the vid! These were available with manual gearbox, although they're pretty rare. I have a manual 645ci convertible myself. Would be interesting to hear what Kenny's done with the exhaust, as the standard sound is a lot more subdued. Also, some info on his idrive upgrade and android auto conversion would be great too, as that's something I'm looking to do at some point!

Hi Frank, glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, if I could pick, I'd buy the manual but rare is an understatement! I test drove an auto and was very close to buying one last month... Kenny's car has had a backbox delete from the previous owner. The one I test drove was stock and although was silky smooth and grunted a little, Kenny's car just screams. He did the Android head unit change himself. I'll see if I can get more details for you!

@CarNitty2 жыл бұрын
The 545i would be the more practical long distance GT but they're a lot more expensive due to rarity. 5 Series had a lot more smaller engines for it to be accessible for more people whereas the 6 was kept exclusive by having big engines

My e46 is msport not sport like most of them. But it is a 2006 model. But you point of ‘msport’ starting with the e90 3 series isn’t true. And the 6 series was actually offered with a manual transmission - but it is very rare
@CarNitty Жыл бұрын
M Sport as a term became a thing around 2005 and the E90 launched that same year hence why it's essentially the car that started the denomination of M Sport. Realistically, it's been around for a while. An older car even such as an E36 has a Sports spec which gives M badge trinkets which is exactly what M Sport is. The manual was an option yes, but most people ticked the ZF6 due to the fact it's a GT car and it suited the car best. The other choice was also an SMG box. Also very rare.

Bro I didn’t want to comment but you defending fake noise piped through the speakers is a fake as Monopoly money 💵 and not for me I rather ride a donkey or go electric. Just my opinion. Nice review though.
@CarNitty3 жыл бұрын
This car is incredibly loud but also well insulated. You can tell from when the window is closed and open. With the windows up, it's very hard to tell you're sat on a 4.4 NA V8 and that's where active sound comes in for modern cars. I'm fully against a Golf R that has 5 cylinder noises coming through the speakers but I'm not against a car that only enhances the exhaust note. There's a fine line here and I'm picky about what I like and don't. If Kenny wanted his car to be heard even with windows up, he'd have to straight pipe it which would cause unbearable drone so there needs to be some middle ground. Also, it's important to note active sound isn't just random noise. It matches the cars exhaust note and the rev of the car to make it authentic as possible.

I would skip the 645 and look for one of the earlier 2006 650s (which pays the same tax unlike later years). Not just because of the displacement/power bump but also the earlier N62 had some reliability issues that could be very expensive to fix. Leaking valve stem seals were apparently very common and a huge PITA to fix, a BMW specialist will charge 2-3k£ for the job.
@CarNitty3 жыл бұрын
It's very hard to find a 2005 650i and if there is one on sale hence why I think it's best to buy a 645Ci and just get that specific job looked at immediately after purchase since it's a common fault and factor that into cost of purchase

The cheapest 650 with 90k ish miles is around 8.5k from a dealer ( I don't do private sale purchases) or there was a 46k miles one on autotrader for 7,250. Immediately it needs new tyres, the old ones have tread but they're really crap. I probably should have gone for a 650, but just dropped 3k for a new exhaust for my main car

Correction notice! 6spd manual was made in 04 and very few people got it. I’ve got one.

The manual is such a rare option that I didn't mention it! Literally, at the time of the video, none were on sale in the UK and the auto and SMG are the more popular choices. The auto suits the car as well since it's a GT car

@@CarNitty the 6 speed manual is fantastic. Good on ya mate...

@@jeffjones2021 no doubt as the years have gone on, the auto and SMG have aged poorly whereas the manual looks to be the sought after choice no doubt!

I know the N62 has its flaws but I think if you do your due diligence and and check out someone like Timm's BMW repairs on KZbin, you can buy a good example and have a trouble free ownership. Kenny's had his car for over 1.5 years and has nearly 150k miles yet still going strong. Don't ever let horror stories stop you from getting a car that you want

@@markstrawbridge9133 I'm guessing you bought the B7 generation as the B8 S4 was a 3.0L supercharged unlike the B8 S5 was initially a 4.2 V8 before copying the S4... Awesome car. Very jealous. Would love to get you and that on the channel if you'd be interested!

@@markstrawbridge9133 that sounds like a dream. I'm sure you can tell how anal I am about the road tax fee! Please do drop me a DM on KZbin or an email and we can do a video!
