Great troubleshooting Gary! Most shops would've just thrown a banner kit and solenoids at this and never bothered to actually find the real problem. Hope this fixed the unit. Keep up the great work. Would love to see more units that come through your shop.

Yes, Customer called me and said car is running great, He lives in Buffalo and says any trans work will come to you. I hate just throwing parts at the transmission because if it doesn't fix the problem I feel bad charging them, I also hate working without direction

Hello Gary, Thank You for your very details videos. I have a problem with my BMW e65 transmission, you may encounter: While driving, the gearbox error 4E89 - solenoid valve 1 or solenoid valve 2, mechanical lock suddenly appeared. After turning off and restarting the car, the error disappeared and I reached the place (10 km), but when stopping the car, the gearbox automatically switched to P mode. When I tried to change to R or D, it automatically changed to P again. mechatronics and the following parts were replaced: a set of solenoid valves, a separation plate, pistons, seals between the mechatronics and the gearbox, oil and a bowl. Unfortunately, it still happens to it when stationary or very slow rolling, shifting to P gear when the engine is warmed up

A couple of times when i read about those codes, the fix seemed to be a valvebody. Trans is full of oil correct?
@pawep5571 Жыл бұрын
@@GaryFerraro The oil level is correct. I'm wondering why the problem occurs only after warming up? Do you think it's a tcm failure or a lack of pressure? I read the adaptive values. They are very good apart from the C brake which is 350mbar.
@pawep5571 Жыл бұрын
A new symptom appeared or it was already there, but I haven't accelerated the car harder in a long time. During stronger acceleration 'gears fall out' (revs increase). Then the gear indicator goes out for a second and when I release the accelerator everything returns to normal. Today I disassembled the mechatronic and will send it back to be checked under pressure, but I'm afraid that the problem will be the gearbox.

Hi. Hello, thanks for your videos. I looked at your tutorial I repaired the transmission of my bmw (6hp21) but it has a detail when I stop at a stop sign I feel a blow when it falls in first gear, I think it is in the mechatronic. Can you guide me to replace? Thanks again for your videos, they are excellent.

hi my 2006 bmw x5 has same transmission. It had 2-1 or 1-2 jerk when hot only. Had bridge seal and sleeves replaced. Doesn`t help. Is that a solenoid problem?
@GaryFerraro5 жыл бұрын
I traced this back to either a solenoid or bushing problem, i would do the solenoids first, How many miles on the car? After solenoid replacement, shift adapts must be reset or trans will work the same way, can you reset adapts?
@Archerthestrangeguy5 жыл бұрын
@@GaryFerraro thanks for the reply. my car has 230,000km on it. The fluid is not that dirty or burnt smell when i drained it. And it was perfect fine until i reset the adaptive value.
@GaryFerraro5 жыл бұрын
@@Archerthestrangeguy If it was good before, drive for a couple of days see if it adapts. The trans will not adapt if transmission or engine codes are present. Trans temp also has to be at least 130F

I have a 2008 bmw 335i with a “4F89” code that that’s says “EGS: ratio monitoring, gearshift 3-4” what do you think would possibly be the fix for that? Your feed back would help a ton thanks

OK, first has the fluid level been checked?
@wzrd__32625 жыл бұрын
Yes I’ve replaced pan, fluid, sealing sleeves bridge seal and plug adapter, should I have reset adaptations afterwards with a scan tool?
@GaryFerraro5 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Ocampo Ok. There is a problem with the E clutch. This clutch is on in 4th 5th and 6th. So either you have a solenoid problem or a worn out rear stator bushing.

Gary Ferraro thank you for the feedback! Just bought a solenoid kit, I hope it does the trick!

How much should I expect to pay for all that hardware as a DIYr? My 2009 X5 is getting some shudder when pulling away on a hill when hot. I don't really want to just throw parts at it, but if the price is right I'll redo the valve body like youve done here.
@GaryFerraro5 жыл бұрын
Solenoids came way down in price, the set maybe 400.00 or so, plate around 85.00, other small parts are cheap. Where are you located? do you have any codes in the trans?
@jamesf90745 жыл бұрын
Gary Ferraro I’m in TN. Haven’t scanned for codes, but no errors on dash.
@GaryFerraro5 жыл бұрын
James Fisk ok. I would also check the fluid level. The connectors like to leak
@jamesf90745 жыл бұрын
Gary Ferraro finally got to checking the level and it seems good. Forgot to take a pic of the data plate while I was under there. Issues are becoming more frequent. It now how a stutter in town. But if you get on it and load the transmission down, it doesn’t seem to slip. I think I’m going to change the fluid and do the valve body rebuild. I figure I can handle that work fairly well, and if the issue continue I can put the refreshed valve body into a lower mile donor transmission should that become necessary.
