My father lucked upon one of these in 1981 in CT. You know; the USA. Lovely steering and that nifty little wooden shift knob. Slightly off white with tan leather, real leather. Same wheels as this blue one. It was a blast to drive and the design, as this presenter has pointed out, was just sublime. Plus no one else was driving or even had one, which is kinda nice in its own way. I have never come across another example in person. It wasn't really all that difficult to keep running right, either. We were gearheads, anyway. Pop's gone now but I still am.

What a fantastic review of my favorit Bmw. Lovely car ❤. We have an 1973 3.0s automatic and its a family member we never let go.

I’ve had both a 73’ 3.0 si and a 3.0 csi. These were the most fabulous cars I’ve ever driven. Built like a tank and very reliable engine wise. I think a well serviced one could last a lifetime.

Awesome video. You are correct not much content on e3 bmw on KZbin. We own two 3 2800 1970s generation 1 . A one owner and a 4 owner car . We also have a e28 525e. We love the e3 they are just the epitome of class and performance in the day .

I owned one of these in the late 70:s a magnificent machine. Mine was beige with a brown vinyl roof and brown velour interior, To say I love it would be an understatement. Prior to that I owned a bright orange 2002 Ti round tail lights, another amazing car.

Maybe the greatest BMW ever made. I prefer the first gen E3 2800 without chrome. Super light and sporty with standard differential lock. Specs were outstanding and perfect handling with right tires excellent in winter too!

In the late seventies, I owned a '72 3.0s, followed by a '73 2500. These cars were only six or seven years old when I bought them, but they were a cheap second-hand deal by then. Much like the Jag XJs, you could buy them for the same money as a two year-old mini. The problem was that, as they changed hands, the service stamps became sparser and you could expect expensive problems with a 60k plus miler. I'm sure I was only getting 20mpg, at best.

Good review and nice example. However FYI (just in case you did'nt know ), the spoiler for the wiper would of been on the drivers side, the bootlid should be lined with a tool kit, exhaust would of had a chrome trim on it. Inside the fuel door, there would of been a sticker for tyre pressures (which you can still get ), there is no sound proofing insulation inside the bonnet and car seems to be sitting lower at the back. Other than that, exactly how I remember them ! BTW, the steel used on those earlier cars was far superior to the later cars 75/76 onwards.

I had a E3 3.0si in the late 80s I bought it from a friend that was an Ex pro rally driver. It was looked after very well before me with car dried if it got wet, and left in a heated garage. The Local BMW garage thought it was the best condition one they had seen. It was great to drive with a lovely hum at low revs and a howl when pushed to it limits, ( i think it was about 6,700 revs?). I was about 24 at the time and loved it. Downsides were no traction in the snow, and limited traction in wet, it could spin a inside back wheel coming out of wet roundabouts in third gear, it could really do with a limited slip diff. it also went to lift off oversteer, with the back end starting to steer the car, which caught me out the first couple of times it happened as I managed to do a couple of 360 degree spins. fuel consumption was possibly good for the time but i got about 20mpg, I think that a 5 speed box would really help it in terms of fuel consumption and high speed motorway cruising . mine would sit at about an indicated 140 mph on the rev limiter, maybe about 130mph real speed. I sold it when I bought a flat with no parking otherwise I would have kept it. I like the way they look relatively conservative compared to the coupe ones, but were super quick for their epoch. I my view they were the first M5, in spirit anyway. Every time I saw the friend I bought it off he said he wish he had kept it as he did not like his new, at the time, 944 Porsche as much. Reg was TGU 73L where are you now?

I restored a white E3 3.0Si way back in 1981. It had rear accident damage and cost me £200. They were prolific rusters even at 8 years old, mine had rust perforation in the sills and rear axle mounting points. Front wings(fenders) had rotted also. I drove it for 3 years and loved it, the lower gear acceleration was spectacular. The D Jetronic injection system was very reliable but fuel lines and tank were prone to rusting, fuel consumption was not great, mid teens mostly. It definitely had an engine developed for performance, fuel consumption was not a consideration before 1973. Definitely a better car than the P6B Rover and mk 1 XK6 4.2.

Can't beat them. If I could buy a new one today I would. That being said; I do currently own a 1973 2500 which still looks lovely for it's age. No major mechanical work ever done on it. Only tragic thing was that it was rolled severely, but rebuilt lovingly into a donor body shell which was only a few cars older, like 6 digits different from the original shell. It does need a proper restoration now but is still very much drivable. Mine might be for sale to the right buyer for the right money....

I do like the content, and the E3 is also one of my personal favoutites - i owned an E3 3,0L, which was a fantastic car. If i should give a bit of advice to you, if would be to try not to say aahh all the time, and also maybe keep the bits with only music a bit shorter - best of luck - looking forvard to following the channel. Cheers!

Lovely car. Looks like you have adjusted the rear ride height. It is more balanced now. The 3.3Li was a long wheelbase version that previewed the 7 series. It featured a version of the 3.2 engine used in the Batmobile CSL. There was a competitor in the Targa Newfoundland for several years and won the overall twice. The rules allowed another engine from the same manufacturer with a similar layout in the vintage category. They used a 3 litre M3 motor. Another US competitor won in a 2002tii more than once.
@berwhaletheavenger10 ай бұрын
Not quite...... The 3.3L came first in 1974 and used a unique long stroke 3299 cc engine with twin Solex carbs.That had some issues in service and was replaced in 1976 withy the fuel injection 3210cc engine from the 633CSi. The 3.2 Batmobile CSL used a 3.0 block with a first oversize bore and an 84 mm stroke crank.

I had a couple of these cars in the 80's JSP281N and JLL768N and they both went to the rev limiter in top gear easily and would pull 100mph easily in 3rd gear till the rev limiter cut in, had many different BMW models over the years since and none are are as good as 3.0si. and the coupe e3 was crap to drive compared to the e3. very hard to get the engine set up properly and D jetronic system is far better than the later L jetronic. Was designed to use 5 star petrol Leaded. Great great cars far better than the cars of today.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. "Bundesabgasbespaßungsverbot" in German. :-///
