BMW E30 325i 1989 rough idle Start ICV

BMW E30 3 Series Idle Speed Troubleshooting trouble with ICV rough idle with the engine warm.
One of the most common glitches on the BMW E30 3 Series is an erratic engine idle. Have you noticed that the idle seems to surge constantly? Does it constantly move between 800 and 1800 RPM? Does the idle stay steady at 1800 RPM? this is specific to the 1987 through 1991 E30 6 cylinder cars, however the basics apply to nearly all BMW's. Never ever plug back the icv while the the engine is running could send a spike back to the ecu and damage it.

Hello dear friend. By chance you have the vehicle manual where it specifies the tests that can be carried out in the ICV. I'm having idle instability issues on my 1990 e30 320i. I came across a magazine article that said between the center pin (+) of the ICV connector and ground, you need to measure the battery voltage. And between the center pin (2) and pins 1 and 3, it should measure 10 VDC. In my case, pin 2 and pin 3 measure 4.1 VDC. I measured it at the output of the ECU (positive battery and pin 4 ECU) and the value is the same. I changed the ECU and the output voltage value between positive battery and pin 4 ECU is 4.1 VDC. I got a 95 325i its hard to start 😪 I can get it to start and it idle like crazy well I let it sit a few days went to start it now its nothing no start backfires through the intake once then nothing after that

That’s a lot of issues, you probably want to check all the fuel components. So fuel pump, injectors, fuel rail if those are fine then check the spark plugs, the timing sensor, distributor cap. If nothing is wrong with those then check air intake system. But the errors could be a mix of multiple things even the dme or other ecu

Make sure to buy genuine ICV or get them cleaned or fixed by someone reputable or buy a m50 engine or k24

Hi Mark, yeah it turned out to be a really old, stuck, and tired ICV valve. We were not able to restore it. It had something loose inside. Now it doesn’t sputter any more. What we found afterwards is that the fuel filters and maybe the fuel pump will be the next things to go.

Is this a video about fixing a go pro to a suction cup or rough idle? The icv rarely fails on these cars (cleaning is advisable) you have to check leads plugs distributor tps cps and do a leak test! This is noob car mechanics fail.
