Would you be able to pass a smog check after "gutting" the converters? Not sure how you're going to get registration tags for the next year...

Will the cat delete definitely throw a CEL all the time or force limp mode without the spacer. Or is there a possibility it will fine?

Sad to see an e36 get scrapped, I love seeing them on the road. I am in the process of restoring a 99 vert, its a great car so far and it turns a lot of heads. Also, I'm so happy to see my 2 favorite KZbinrs working together. I watch every video you and the 50's Kid put out. Keep it up!

I dont know much about mechanic, but I have a 2007 BMW 328. the car wont start , but I took the O2 sensor and the car runs fine just is super loud , do you think cats are clog up ?? car have 150K miles

is it legal to remove the cat? you can fool onboard computer but it will pollute more. so noone is checking that at all ever?

Yes it will but if u cut the cats and dont damage the o2sensor and wel a pipe I guess it may not show the engine light

Nathan my 06 E53 3.0i doesn't have any check engine light on nor any other indicator for codes. However, the Nova scan tool I used has BMW advanced aspect on it. So I'm seeing these here come up as follows: 5F42 error gearbox in emergency mode active; 5F3A clutch gearbox-ECU clutch is open rear wheel drive; 5F5B can message instrument cluster error sending failure identification; 5D8D fuel return pump off um rfp off, exp on fuse defective or it's motor relay defective stop error on feed back off; 5DCE voltage under charge too low uz error and 5EB1 steering angle sensor LWS if nothing else could you do video explaining these things so people have more better understanding of what these mean as well explain what each function is and does in relationships to each other within the 2006 E53 X5 3.0i Sport Activity Vehicle...like I currently own thank you. I ask this respectfully because I have looked high and low and not getting the info I need to better get a fuller understanding of these issues with in my specific model BMW X5 here mentioned above. I am working on it now just changed the upstream oxygen sensors, but couldn't get the post sensors to come out lol. Not much room under vehicle on ramps. Changed thermostat just above clutch fan, did the AT thermostat too awaiting the cam shaft position sensor to arrive to install it.. My notion is that I believe these issues are being triggered via the water that was getting into center console which leaked water down into my radio navigation system screen doesn't show info upon the display...the radio works (you just can't see anything) only using controls on my steering wheel..I will be replacing the unit with another one...for now I have GPS that plugs into lighter...so I can still get to any location unknown to me I'm not familiar with. I'm a novice learning to work on my own things because of being mislead and duped out of money. So I'm trying to become better at being my own mechanic...n only try to see reputable shop with references sorry to say an excuse my language but I'm not comfortable with someone just finger fucking my vehicle and expecting to be paid for running roughshod wit vehicle...thanks brother for any assistance in this area time available to do what your able would greatly appreciated again thanks...learning me...chanic lol 😁🔧🔩

Yea the stealership will leave you with a empty wallet and a car that is still broken, when is the last time the fluid in the gearbox has been changed? is it shifting weird at cold? if the are old codes that are hangin in the pending background they should go away, if not the check engine light will come on as they become stored, you can also unhook the battery cables and touch them together and see if that clears them

Nathan's DIY Garage thanks for responding back to me upon this matter. I'M not sure when exactly the previous owner did anything in respect to the fluid being changed. I recently bought it from her, and have not registered it yet. I addressed the issues of thermostat being stuck in the open position, new plugs, sensors only upstream. I couldn't get the two downstream sensors to budge so those two have not been done. The vehicle runs what is in my opinion fine. It is not running rough no sputter. I used a hose to repair my break line leak on driver side rear wheel for the rear passenger side wheel. It's holding up not leaking and the display message does not come back on regarding it. My cam shaft position sensor is here I have to pick it up. It's cold in my area but not cold to point that what I researched on BMW threads of cold starts stalling etc I'm not experiencing those things they went through. But the thread spoke more upon the transmission issue which everyone has experienced. I now have the issue the thread is upon 5F3A says clutch gearbox-ECU clutch is open rear wheel drive!!! With 5 other codes similar to this one just different functions such as a "can message upon instrument cluster error sending failure identification" as I stated in my previous message to you. I will be tackling the cam shaft position sensor next..but each time I put the novo scan tool on vehicle to see if the issues would go away it still tells me emissions like : cat, eva, not sure what that is there, o2, and htr issues but no lights are on in my dash to these being stated by the tool?????

Nathan's DIY Garage hey the stealership that's a good one there. And as I stated in the thread ppl were thinking about bringing a class action against the company because with the transmission issue everyone has with these vehicles....it's a serious matter that could lead to someone loosing their lives.. my intentions are to once registered get to a reputable BMW dealer to tell me whether this E53 I own has any open recalls for whatever that needs to be fixed under said recall. And some ppl in the thread said we could possibly get a full refund of the vehicles monetary value. Given they have been well aware of the existing problems and either do a bull shit job in RE flashing the necessary system components with right software or they tell owners that they can't do anything if they say brought BMW in several times on same issue they contend to of fixed the 1St time you took it in for service to be corrected on their end...they also said keep records of everything get names of people who serviced it at which BMW dealer location...and speak with an attorney on the matters under the Lemon Law due to this existing matter and it carries over into each batch of vehicle's they assemble at the plants they then sell to us. It was very deep on the issue. And the 1-800# they said is provided to contact upon issue they give us the consumer the PR spew so to speak which does nothing and you're just told bunch of jargon basically on the matter when you call them to complain about the problem or problems.
