@@MTechGuy I’m assuming you can test door cards by hosepiping the windows and checking if water comes out of door instead of drain hole. Or sit in car and wait for water to seep in. I couldn’t see water come in so I’m assuming mines from windscreen cowl area drivers side.

16:12 I don't understand how rain water gets into the cabin from the under-bonnet drainage holes. The height from the drainage hole to the cabin air filter is quite high, so that would take a lot of water to accumulate before any water got in through the cabin filters. Is that the scenario that you're suggesting occurs ?

If the vehicle is out in pouring rain, it doesn’t take much for the compartments to fill up with water if the drain points are blocked
@lewis72 Жыл бұрын
@@MTechGuy Yes, it was out in the very heavy rain that we had a few weeks ago. Furthermore, the car was parked half on the kerb, so more rainwater would have gone onto the RHS drainage, which was the side that let in water.

@@MTechGuy Thanks for your video. 17:22 What's the 2nd electrical connector for ? I have the bonnet sensor on mine but not the 2nd connector. What had confused me is that there are 2 drainage holes on each side. - The first, which is cabin-filter level, goes outwards into the inner wing. There is an rubber elbow hose those channels the water into the wheel arch area. I think you looked at the underside of this from the wheel arch. It is removable from under the bonnet but it takes a bit of heaving. Mine were full of mush on both sides. - The second is at a much lower level, as you showed, below the brake servo. I _think_ that what was happening with mine was that that lower trough was filling with water by a few inches and then the water was getting into the cabin from the brake servo hole, not, as I first suspected and thought unlikely, through the cabin heater vent tracts.

Those non-return valves are silly, why did BMW fit them there? It's not like any muck is going to make it through the arch liner and get up into the pipes... But it does mean the pipes slowly block up with dirt coming down from the roof. Think I would just pull them off and leave it at that as the fronts ones dont use/need a non return valve and as we know, and not prone to blocking up.

Great video! Water poured unto windshield was leaking into cabin, but I had no idea it was filling up chambers around the DME and brake booster which both had badly clogged drains. I thought is was leaking through firewall somehow. I had to replace my wheel wells anyway, so i took them out completely. 2005 525i with manual transmission.

Better late than never.. I'm a subscriber and a new (to me) E60 M5 owner. Thanks for all the videos, its been so helpful! Question for you - I discovered a bit of water in my battery compartment in the boot area. The water was collected in the dimple area of the tray in the corners. I haven't felt any water in the boot itself. Any idea where/what the culprit is? Thanks - Stephen (Washington State, USA).
@MTechGuy Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the Sub Stephen, good to have you here. Congrats on the M5 purchase! The water could be getting in the tail light gaskets, rear window seal or the boot/trunk seal. I would start by checking the battery drain & grommet it goes through are in place, then remove some of the boot interior panels and give the outside a good spray with the hose pipe. The leak should be relatively easy to spot

Ok tried that and water flows and exits the rear wheel arch when you pour down windscreen on both sides driver and passenger Under brake booster no wells or water seems dry mechanic says. Pouring down windows haven’t seem water pour into footwell unless it seeps under carpet? Mechanic is puzzled not sure where the access is. Says could be lights anything where it’s coming and maybe needs all plastics off to see. We have no sunroof too. Any ideas as I’m getting puddles daily after rain in driver side front and rear no where else.

@@MTechGuy went to body shop guy and he poured water on windscreen and drivers door like a rain shower. I sat in car for 5 minutes and could not see any water seeping in via doors or behind pedals. Above the pedals it’s totally dry but the floor is wet. I put on cover overnight and water still enters . The cover is over the windows and front bonnet. However bonnet is not secure wind can breach it by blowing under but doors are covered to below windows . I’m totally puzzled by this. Going to have a another look under bonnet cowl as my incompetent mechanic tells me is all good when he didn’t even put plastics in right. If it’s not bin Under bonnet under brake booster then I’ll lost. I swear it’s not doors as he literally washed them down. They soaked now but how did the water get in to footwell when no evidence of ingress via opening???

Quick question: while trying to pull drain plug out my friend used a screwdriver and accidentally pushed it thru the hole it sits on. Now water drains out but not sure where it exits under car. It’s seems to run under cover I think and traces of oil is on water presumably water picks it up from underbody cover. It’s not draining from wheel arch for sure. Is this ok or should I investigate that rubber seal plug which is going to block again if we find it ??

@@MTechGuy it’s the drain plug under the brake fluid reservoir/booster bin. Without plug it drains quicker. Will need to buy another plug as it’s lost probably in wheel arch. @@MTechGuy Had covers on so not tested yet. But I’m hoping it’s solved it. Carpets are little damp other side passenger so going to attempt under ECU box but heard it’s hard to see drain in there. If I see water it’s also blocked otherwise drain will be clear . I’m told that even though drains are clear water can still seep through thru blanking plate which lets in wiring looms/data cables in. Common problem and specialists replace the blanking plates first.
