BMW E70 X5 Water Leak From Rear Door DIY Fix

Nice and clear. Funny how we have had similar/ same cars. When I have these door letting in rainwater faults I always totally remove the inner membrane.. Clean out any gunk or debris in the door.. Lubricate lock and motor then I use spray glue around the inner door area and place a sheet of thin plastic roll (seat cover). Then I run a bead of sealant around the original membrane and refit. Never fails. Sometimes I apply a spray of a rust proofing material to the inner lower door shell. Another good video... Can't wait for the next.

OK pretty convinced my E70 is having the same problem. Lots of rain recently, every time I open back driver side door water dumps on ground. Carpet is getting wet. So got to fix this ASAP.

Just a heads up to those that are still having problems even after sealing your membrane. There is a rubber seal that goes around the edge of the door. It is actually on the door and is what I'd call the outer seal. It can leak also, and supposedly the solution is to replace the outer weather strip. The symptom of this is water in between the outer and inner seal, pooling up on the door sill (the painted part) and also visible with water droplets or marks where the water is. If you look at the outer door seal position, there should be no water in between the two seals. You can also follow the door around and see if there is water or water residue. I was able to trace the issue by slowly pouring water from a hose over the door until I focused on just the rear gap and that's where water was coming in on my car.

Unfortunately after doing what you done in the video the water is still leaking and getting inside the car after it rains.

I'll be uploading a video on this. The issue was the rubber door jam seal that's on the body of the vehicle not the one on the door. With age it just stop sealing properly and water will get past and go under the carpet.

It worked for me but only because the membrane was torn. You'll have to check and see if yours has damage maybe.

That is there to stop the door card rubbing on the door . The rubber seal fails that runs along the bottom of the door and you have to change it . 😂

@@FourRingsAuto read up on it ffs its to stop rubbing and for the noise , to drown out wind - road noise. Has nothing to do with water . Why the hell would a mutil billion car company use foam to stop water ?? Your video is bloody shocking and useless ! All the bottom of the doors there is a rubber seal that can come away from the door over time and hold water allowing it to run into the car . If your theory is correct the door would have around 6 to 8 inches of water sitting in it 😂 its a well known problem and if you take it to BMW they will change the rubber , 9-10 times its drivers side rear door . Foam you melt 🤣🤣

I'll agree it's also for noise, but why would they need it to stop a door card rubbing that is bolted on and has panel clips the whole way around the door? Mercedes don't have foam to stop rubbing, and yet there is no issue. It is a vapour barrier. That is it's name. Your comments are shocking and how raged you're getting that something that fixed your car means that this is wrong. Why are you even watching the video if you have fixed your car already?

Because every symptom has the same cause...nice generalisation. What mah have fixed your car doesn't mean it's always the fix. I had a torn membrane and water in the footwell everytime it rained. Repaired the membrane, then no more water - it must have been the door seal that I didn't replace!!
