Amazed how simple of a job they've made this, i was expecting that i have to tear down the entire dash. Woke up to -15C and my heater not working today, not the greatest of times for mine to malfunction. Thank you, very straight to point video.

I did this a while back. Removed the fan... washed in hot soapy water. Dried with hair dryer. Sprayed silone spray brown into the bearings. Held the blower in my hand. And connected it up. It got faster and faster I thought I was going to take off. Turned it off. Re-Fitted... Still hoping 3 years on...

Hi, thanks buddy. My blower motor stopped working 2 years ago and I was just about to remove the motor or if needed the dashboard to sort it out for once and for all. After watching this I turned the motor by hand from the engine bay and whalaaa... there she turns....saved me a bunch of time, frustration, money and scratches I would have gotten whilst removing stuff. Not too mention breaking clips and such. Thanks again for the video.

I had the blower replaced a year ago and had a feeling it had just seized up ( yesterday ). Fixed it by removing the Pollen filter and giving the blower a spin with a fire poker. Then switched it on and it went like new. Then plenty of WD40. It took approximately 10 minutes. This was so easy to do I'll keep doing it every few months as a precaution. Thank you so much for this video. Liked and subscribed.

After only 1 year... I would make sure that you don't have any water leaking into the blower motor intake, that could be causing the bearings to fail / seize up.

Just completed today with a new motor. Hint, If it is not the same motor being replaced (IE aftermarket) either some Vaseline or rubber grease, inox or lubricant before replacing as it was tight as a nuns... anyways, you made it look so easy. Me was 1-2hrs. trying to line up, pull in lift out drivers seat layover... then passenger side kneeling just to get a bit. It hasn't locked in correctly and it was beer o clock. Thanks.

I did take the blower out thanks to this video; otherwise I would have removed the dash which is a pain. Once the blower was out, I connected back to its power plug and see it working fine! so what could be the issue when It was sitting in its housing that was not spinning ? I have not yet tried to put it back to see if the issue is fixed; spins without pinky too but not as freely as the new one. Should I just lube it and put it back ? Thanks again for the great video you shared.

Use a scan tool and check for fault codes in the climate control module... use the scan tool to perform output test / trigger the fan. If the controller is receiving a signal, then the controller is bad. If no signal is getting to the controller, then there might be a communication issue.

Hey man I've tried a combination of 3 different fans with 3 different FSRs. The car is sending 12v to them but no combination of fan and FSR seem to work. It's always the FSR not sending any power to the fan. I've scanned for codes and nothing stood out but I reset them anyway. I have tried testing with and without the engine running. I did even try swapping the fuse but still no luck. One of the fans is brand new. Any ideas?

Year, make, model, engine? Overheating? When? Idle only or also when driving? Heat inside the car?
@120thevortex
@120thevortex Жыл бұрын
2005 e91, 2.0 TDI. Engine can be off, idle or driving it doesn't make a difference. Before the fan failed the heating was very strong. All the blend doors and air recirculation work. The car isn't over heating at all. The fan stopped working a couple days ago. I know that the heater matrix is still getting hot because if I let my car idle for awhile I will eventually see the mist on the windshield slowly clear up to a point where the hot air is rising out of the top vents. I believe this is an issue relating to the PWM wire as no matter what the fan speed is set to the wire will give out zero volts.
@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS Жыл бұрын
@@120thevortex sorry, I replied without reading the title of the video and assumed it was a radiator fan issue. Scanned for codes... climate control module or just obd codes? Yes, if it's not sending a PWM signal, the blower will not activate. I had an Audi recently where there was no communication between the instrument cluster and the climate control module, resulting in an inoperative climate control module. I don't know much about BMW's / if output tests / activations can be done with a scan tool. If yes, see what happens.

@@EXOVCDS I did scan for codes and found several relating to the air temp blend doors but I am certain mine are working, this alone should not hinder the operation of the fan from what I've read. I did also find some strange CAS codes such as a speed signal sensor fault. I did clear them all but they came back. I'm going to be ordering some software that will allow me to operate output tests and take better readings but until then I will be without heating.

@@resinmag4202 I would replace the motor (and power output stage) if the motor was stiff. I don't think that they can be taken apart easily for overhauling (replacing bearings and motor brushes). The time & effort trying to fix it, can end up costing more than replacing it with a new unit.

@@j_valentin13 Whatever 1/2hr is in your area. 1hr can be less than $60 or more than $120 depending on the shop you go to. 1/2 that is 30min. So $30 to $60 for just labor... plus taxes. If you bring your own parts and that's not the problem, it'll cost more... probably (to find the problem).

Holy buckets! I can't believe BMW didn't make it so you had to pull the dash in order to change the motor! Steve's tyres! HAHAHA Crappy Tyre will not live that down for a long time!

Lol they did on some of the older car models. I watched a E series m5 video where the guys had to remove the whole dash. On my F10 however it's located under the hood near pass side windshield cowl, which is far easier.

My biggest complaint about BMW is their devotion to pretending that there is nothing making the car work other than the car itself. Lift the hood, the engine is completely obscured by covers. So are all the hoses, and the suspension... No battery, either! It's in the trunk (usually), but you have to remove a bunch of covers to get to it. No fuse panel; gotta remove a bunch of panels to get to it. The hood release lever is often unmarked and tucked up under the dash... BMW is doing everything they can to make their customers think there are no parts and nothing to go wrong! Bloody annoying...

I think that my 2007 328i is easy to work on. Sure it has lots of insulation plastics but they’re quality vehicles!!! My trusty old bmw still runs like new

My 27 & 29 year old BMW's run just fine as well. Have you had to change your starter yet? Should be a simple job on most cars... I know it is on mine. Things are different these days (anything after 2000), that's all we're saying... and it's true that "different" can be annoying.
