In this video, we are replacing the shock absorbers of an E90 320i at ~150.000km. Worn shock absorbers are often not identified as the handling only gradually worsens. Preventive replacement is reasonable at about 150.000km. If the absorber leaks oil, you should replace them immediately.
The shock absorber is assembled as following, from bottom to top:
- Bottom Support Bearing
- Shock Absorber
- Dust Cover
- Additional Bumper
- Supporting Cup
- Upper Support Bearing, Lower Part
- Sealing Gasket
Then, put on via the trunk:
- Upper Support Bearing, Upper Part
As the parts vary depending on the engine, transmission type, configuration and whether it's the sport or normal setup, no part numbers will be listed.
A lot of online car part stores only display suitable parts after a vehicle has been entered. This is the shopping list:
2x Rear Shock Absorbers
2x Support Bearing, Bottom
2x Support Bearing, Top, Lower Part
2x Support Bearing, Top, Upper Part
2x Dust Cover Set (almost always includes the additional damper)
