Who cares if the 335i is tuned? It's less than 1k to keep up with a car that's 20k more. I love M cars just as much as the next guy, and if I could afford it I would. But what an amazing machine the 335i is to be able to pull on an M3 with a modest tune and intake!! The level of FB that it is to upgrade your control arms, strut braces, Ecu, etc and have a car that's affordable to someone like me and is fast, classy, and practical!! No doubt the M3 is special, and by all means a better car (considering its purpose) but for BMW to build a car that's an entry level luxury car that can be tuned to this high of a level is simply a testament to their quality and engineering. It's a win/win for an M3 owner and 335i owner no matter which car is quicker with or without a tune!! If I owned an M3 instead of a 335i I would smile at the more affordable BMW beating me and think to myself, "wow, I love this brand of car! I'm really proud to see them build such incredible cars!" So what if I got beat, I congratulate the other driver and say, "let's meet at a track day and see how your mods have improved handling?" And encourage not be mad if make excuses why I lost etc etc. It's just plain fun and beat to tune cars and see their capabilities come alive!! Kudos to the person for tuning their 335i very well. And long live the sport of racing, and little homegrown tuners. And hopefully this community of people with similar interests continues to grow and flourish and be met with encouragement and support!

i own an M3 E92 and i fully appreciate the 335i. It is and can be turned into an amazing vehicle. Both cars are great, the M obviously being made to be a track car. Things do get interesting once you start modding the M tho.

So I bought a 2009 M Sport E92 335i with 70,000kms, had it carbon blasted, JB4 chip fitted, new plug and coil packs, upgraded charge pipe, catless down pipes, cold air intake and running 35% E85. Coil overs and OMFG! thats all I can say.

The e92 M3 is a great car. It's actually part of the reason why I bought my n54 335i. I paid 11500 for a fully loaded, every option red interior 6-speed manual. I was looking for a vehicle under 15K that had the looks, the features and the performance I was wanting. The cheapest e92 M3 that I found with a clean title was 30k at the time. I have since put $1,500 into the vehicle and am extremely happy with the performance. I haven't raced any M3s yet, but I have a feeling these twin turbos are going to walk on that V8.

I absolutely agree with the "handling" comment. There is a way to fix this in the 3 series.....if you want a more organic feel and true handling feel it's imperative to upgrade the upper, lower control arms, as well as tie rods. In the M3 you have a natural camber adjustment that reduces under steer felt in the 3 series. The 3 series as a fluid filled hoping that makes for a smooth feel for most people but an enthusiast will notice right away that there's something missing. The M3 control arms are a solid joint that "firm" up steering feel and with the added camber makes for a more sucked down tight feeling through turns. It's fairly inexpensive to upgrade especially if you buy straight from the company who makes them for BMW as opposed to buying OEM M3 arms from BMW with said logo embossed, about $300 cheaper, same parts haha the other very important upgrade is matched springs and shocks! If you have a sport model the ride height change is negligible but the tight progressive spring rate matched with proper shocks will put more G-Forces on your body than any other decently affordable car on the market. We're talking $1,300 in suspension and $1k in engine upgrades and this 335i is a completely new animal, scary, very scary haha

+AMG Crossfire they can, and do outrun AMG's. Not saying AMG is no good haha cmon its a hand built engine by one person in the plant, they're AMAZING......but not the best, or fastest neither BMW or AMG are. But I can attest myself that while the new CLA 45 AMG is a beast, my 2008 335i with modest tune and upgrades keeps up just fine with my buddies 45 AMG. It's a wash really, whenever we race it depends who gets the peddle down first. From a dig the AWD helps him a lot and he pulls in front instantly by a car or two then I start catching him. It's just fun to test out whatever car you may personally prefer against another. I love the newer MB line and I think they're going the right direction but I would by no means claim one specific brand/manufacturer is superior.

Haven't heard of m3's blown engine. Well, whatever the case is, n54 is the best platform to gain power over the money spent. Many of HPFP issues have been resolved, and I think the engine is quite amazing in terms of performance and reliability.

Drove my 2011 335i from San Francisco to Orange County with 2 people in it and luggage on one tank of 91 gas. 6.5 hours driving time and 420 miles. Still had 38 Miles of range left. Makes 720km with one tank, but could have been more if I would have gone slower (the actual speed limit). :)

e92 refers to the chassis model # for the bmw for instance.. e36 was older 90's models.. e46 early 2000-2006 models and e92 refers to the chassis code for the newer models

Well, it's funny when people claim something but don't know a thing about it or just heard of it. First, I did have an oil cooler. All the cars with sport package had it. Then I replaced it with an aftermarket one. Second, I believe I've read even more as I own the car and there aren't any "disproportionate number of issues on '07". Not to mention I own '07 335i for 5 years now.There were some bugs in '06 models,but it's usual when production starts. And yes,newer model is better because of age.

I really really LOVE my E36! I always puts a smile on my face but it costs me 14k to turbo it and I feel like its the end of the road for this car. I also only have 98k on the car. I bought it 3 years ago with 50k on it for only 14 thousand. I had an offer for 9k last year but didn't sell it...Its all dinan out and I feel that I spent way too much money just to be able to walk on those E46s with a couple mods. Where I live their are some really fast cars and I want to start on a new project. BMW

I wanna see how supercharged m3 would really smoke heavily modded 335i. M3 suspension had already been available for 335i folks, and aftermarket turbo chargers had also been available creating good 500+ hp/tq. Don't know how much the supercharger creates, but it wouldn't be that different. As I have mentioned on many other posts, 335i needs a good LSD, and many different kinds are already available. With that LSD on, don't think M3 would smoke 335i that much...maybe on par with supercharged m3?

That supercharger is good $10k installed I think and I don't think that many people will go that route unless you were a die hard m3 fan. I'd rather get a good GTR with that kind of cash. I heard most m3 people stay with stock suspension. The game changer is LSD. If 335i would get a good aftermarket LSD with a great set of chip/meth/single turbo or RB's/DP/FMIC/m3 suspension package, then I don't think M3 would have much to say.

i have a e92 335 and drive about 130 miles a day to and from work. good on gas and when you want to play, twin turbos are there on demand. M3 V8 guzzles all the time. But then again if you add FMIC, Intake, Exhaust, BOV, and Tune, you'll blow a M3 out of the water and still save about 40K. just search for : Dinan S3 335i vs M3

M3 def is one of the best factory tuned cars. However, that price tag is a bit mis-leading. Even the ~$50K tag for 335i doesn't make sense. BMW surely succeeded on branding. I am sure other makers can come up with equally equipped and balanced cars with cheaper prices and better reliability(in this case 335i).

Second hand examples of the 335i are around half the price of an M3 of the same mileage and spec in the UK so I'm thinking about going down the 335i route at some point, however all M3s just sound spectacular especially this one (E92?). I'm going to be a bit disappointed when they have a tri-turbo 3 litre straight six (or whatever they're building) in the new M3 as the V8 roar won't be there.

Thing is that is not true. :) This specific M3 blew it's engine while racing an IS-F. And that was being stock. So google for M3 engine failures and you'll be surprised.

You should do some reading before writing stupid comments. It wasn't drivers fault and this is not the first M3 with a blown engine.Google a bit. I don't claim anything, I do love ///M cars. However, a fact is that there are more E9x M3's that blew engines than E9x 335i's.Even though much more 335i's were sold and a significant part of them are tuned (easy to tune).There are thousands of 335i's out there that have +50% power over stock and never heard of a blown engine or some kind of failure.

Well, you obviously didn't. First of all, there are many 335i's that run 500+hp for more than 2 or 3 years, because tuning options were developed gradually and atermarket turbos or meth kits were introduced ~3 years ago. 600+ single turbo kit (Vishnu) was introduced about a year ago. Second, 335i is not the most sutable car for tracking because of it's weight and cooling issues. Do some reading. My 335i is a fun/weekend car: 530hp, suspension. I'm planning to have ~600hp next season.

I’ve been waiting 10 years for someone to reply, so thank you for that. Pretty sure you can do S65 rod bearing replacement on a regular basis and still come out cheaper than keeping up with repairs on a tuned but otherwise stock N54. If you upgraded the turbos and other components on the N54, then it’d probably be a different story.

all that 335i tuning, reflashing is suck at the top end, it blows up in the mid and almoast stock at the top. recent discovery show that its engine should be reinforced also new heads to run decent curve near 500hp.

well i did, DI engines are not for boost, and show me 600hp N54/ there are none, HPF is trying to make smth more then 600hp for 5years now, and look where it is now-nowhere. Also f30 m3 will have 3.3l displacement for CR lowering to maintain that boost for 450hp. For me personally 400hp is more then enoough, cause i dont race in the straight lines, thats childish. All that 335 need is semi slicks good suspension and good racetrack. 300hp is more than enough for that chasis on the track.

I've owned 335i for 5 years and I presume I know a bit more about it than you do.I don't know where you are form,but here in Europe '06 means the year of car production (in this case that the car was produced in 2006).And the start of production of 335i was August 2006.S, there are '06 335i's".Period. yeah but a modded M3 will kill a modded 335. People like the 335 cause you can get big power for a reasonable price, while to get massive power out of the S65 you need MUCHO DINERO.

@Christian Sherrard - Wow, you are probably the dumbest guy I've ever seen try to correct me. E85 is 105 octane. Its not 85 octane lmao. I'm betting once you google it you delete your comment. PS I have a 335i that looks exactly like the one in the video. 5.5 gallons of E85/10.5 gallons of 91 octane with my JB4 = ~400 whp. You do know the difference between whp and hp right? Learn about cars before trying to correct someone that knows about cars.
