I am really enjoying your channel, especially since I owned a '72 R75/5 for 30 years! Put close to 200K miles on it and rode it to 24 US States. It was easy to work on, and I modified it quite a bit over the years. It had BMW hard saddlebags, a Vetter Windjammer fairing, and I replaced the 4-speed tranny with a kick-start 5-speed. The points system was replaced by an electronic ignition, upgraded electrical (more watts!), braced swingarm, dual-plugged, bored out to an 851cc, ported and polished heads, etc. It was a splendid ride. Thanks for letting me visit memory lane with you as you work on your wife's /5!! Oh yeah, I also did the EZ clutch mod to it.

I owned a R75/5 myself, and was a rather strong man at that time. But I tell you, this was something I really would have loved. Not only is the clutch easier to release, but it will operate smoother, resulting in softer gear shiftings.

The first clutch cable is the original one for the original low handlebar. But the mounted handlebar ist the mid-hight-version. So it is easy to understand, that the cable did not fit anymore.

I had my first BMW at 19. In 1981. It was a r60/5. After that a R60/6, then a R75/5, the motorcycle i made the most kM's on and had for 8 years. Then a R100RS,then a K100, then a real R75 Wehrmachtsgespann, only i never could ride it because it was in no riding condition. I started restauration but gave up after a few year because of the high cost of parts. After that i had a K75S and then a R1200GS (best bike i ever had). I still have got it. Now i mostly ride a R1100RT, but i would like to have a R1200S.

If you use chain wax in those cables,no need for EZ clutch.

The clutch was incredibly heavy so I built my own Easy Clutch. The Easy Clutch works great.

Get a BMW while you can though its never too late you'll never regret it! I bought my first BMW for my 17th birthday late February a 2012 F800R no title, no key, and it had a broken 5th/6th gear shift fork. It was from a storage auction. Currently apart and putting back together without cutting corners. Had to special order the non-reusable con rod bolts from Germany, 2 weeks to get to the states. It was a great learning experience though. I was going to look at an 2006 K1200S then I came across another Beemer exactly on 09/04/24 me and best buddy hauled home a beautiful 2013 R1200RT-P my first touring bike. I didn't want to sell my CB750 so I sold my 1993 Kawasaki VN750 to get the BMW 1,750 USD. All it needed was a clutch change and the front tire patched. Also another great learning experience taking the whole back half of the bike apart to get to the trans. Same time I did all the maintenance and repacked the drive shaft u-joints. So far runs and rides great its a tall bike but that isn't an issue just getting used to the forks having no dive when coming to a stop. A plus for having power brakes and ABS also insuring it will be cheaper. So far I put 300 miles on it just going around my neighborhood every weekend. Will do more when my dad takes me to get my license as soon as I turn 18. My dad used to ride Ninjas back in the 80s my mom is so worried about me riding. Riding is great therapy and is where im happy. But I still have to remember that I have a 1958 Indian Trailblazer and a 1999 Suzuki GSXR 600 that I have to put back together as well, one at a time slowly getting there.

I’ve owned and ridden Honda except for owning a 68 BSA650 with a fibreglass tank, bought it with a bad rod bearing and rebuilt it to sell, guy test drove and said think about it, came back that night and stole it. So after 50K mi on a 75 Goldwing, haven’t rode for 30yrs but at 68yo, bought a 03 R1150R w 10,068 mi in it Feb24, 9mo later, it has 16,480 and just put 2 new tires on it and balanced them. Michelin Road6’s. I like the torque it has but I couldn’t really test drive but when I started riding it, I found the clutch slipped in higher gears under hard acceleration. I’m getting where it is hard to hit 100 against the wind so I’m guessing I’ll have to fix it soon, maybe as it gets colder and can’t ride as much, yeah, even in FL it gets near freezing jan-feb. Not looking forward to the clutch job but I did engine rebuild machinist 42yrs so I just got to get started on it!🤗

Awesome video! I bought my first BMW motorcycle in 2000 when I was 35, a 1975 R90/6. I still ride it and now I think that I am going to have to try adding an ez clutch to it! Happy Thanksgiving!

But the easyclutch halves the travel of the lever so having it adjusted just right is very important.

Started with Yamaha 80 at a camp when I was 12. Never got my own bike till I was 27 a Suzuki 250R a Japanese two-stroker. Also had a 95 GSXR 750 SRAD always miss that bike. The sound with Yoshimura exhaust was music! Thank you both for your videos. Happy Thanksgiving!

I miss my old R80/7😢 It was mocked up like R90S. It had 1000cc jugs. Put ungodly miles on it. Wish I never sold it.

Just watched your vid on the clutch lever mod is this available in the uk ,I have a bmw r100 r/s 1979 vintage the clutch lever is stiff as is 79. 83 era heavy flywheel as you know if this can be supplied by you please let me know as what it will cost me. Yours sincerely Derek

Now you have fitted the easy clutch unit, do you feel it could have added solder along the end to avoid any fraying or is there no need to do that? thanks

"If you can do it I can do it" YES! We need more girls with that attitude! (As a former teacher for advanced CNC technicians girls are generally at least as good if not better then the boys once they get over that "I can" threshold.)

Does anyone still pre-oil a new cable before installing? Make a funnel out of a stiff piece of paper and tape it too the end of the cable. Fill the funnel with motor oil and let it hang it from the ceiling overnight to allow the oil to flow the total length of the cable. Probably not necessary anymore.

Factory cables have a Teflon liner and no lube suggested . The pivot ends need to be greased though . He did not

Hi Lauren, I was 53 when I got my first/only BMW. I am now nearly 70. I am lucky to live in the south of Spain, so I can enjoy my bike all year round. Hi Kevin, That easy clutch looks interesting. Are they available for a K75?

My first BMW was an R75/5 at age 64. The principles of physics dictate that when pulling the hand lever with Easy Clutch, the lever on the transmission moves only half as much as stock. Other than the need for more precise clutch adjustment, are there any downsides to this?
