Thanks for the video. Thank you for explaining the rear sprocket orientation I seen allot of people placing the liped side of the sprocket facing out

Great Video and easy to follow. Well done 👌. My GS850 has only 12,000 Km but the OEM chain is already badly worn and needs constant adjustment despite no off-roading and easy driving. What's typical life for a well maintained chain ? Thanks
@upshiftingadventuresАй бұрын
I would say that 12000 miles is well beyond typical life of a chain. Probably time to change it. The chain that was changed in the video also had around 12,000 miles and was in need of constant adjustment. I would say that 12,000 is the outer limit of chain life

Great video, you saved me $350 bucks at the dealer. Question - If I had to replace master link (rivet type) in the field, how would I know how much is "enough"? I don't carry a caliper with me on adventures.
@upshiftingadventures7 ай бұрын
I think that you could just eyeball the master link pin in a field situation.

yo, nice video. Quesiton: what do you have as a windshield? is the adjustable windshield from the GSA?

It’s not my bike, it’s a friends but I think it is the stock GS850 rally windscreen

With how many nm oder ft lbs did you tighten the front sprocket? Thanks in advance and thanks for the video.
@upshiftingadventures8 ай бұрын
I didn’t use a torque wrench. Just made it snug. The washer is bent around the bolt to prevent it from spinning loose, plus the rotation of the engine is counter clockwise so it will stay tight.
@PMitchell1062 ай бұрын
The torque specification for the front sprocket is 50Nm, and the service manual calls for Loctite 243, medium strength.
@PMitchell1062 ай бұрын
After the front sprocket bolt is torqued, is there a very small amount of play left in the front sprocket, or none at all? I didn't pay attention to whether there was any play before I disassembled.
@upshiftingadventures2 ай бұрын
I can’t remember exactly for that specific bike but I would think so because every counter shaft has some play in it. As long as the play isn’t between the tightened sprocket bolt and the sprocket itself. If the in/out play is in the countershaft then you are good.

@@upshiftingadventures Thanks for the reply. I figured out that I did have the conical spacer inverted, so when I flipped it to the correct orientation, it took up that small bit of play.

Do you have any of the torque requirements for any of the bolts that you removed and reinstalled?
@upshiftingadventuresАй бұрын
I don’t. Sorry, I am not really a torque spec guy, unless it is something like head bolts etc.

how long is the wrench handle you used to loose swing arm bolt?
@upshiftingadventuresАй бұрын
It was a standard length breaker bar. Maybe 12 inches I think

I didn't bother with that clip on the QS I took the gear lever off the shaft. Just an alternative.
@PMitchell1062 ай бұрын
The clip is very simple to undo, and then there's no need to deal with re-aligning to the correct spline on the shaft.
