Appreciate the info in the video. I just bought a 19 F90 M5 about a week ago and not even 24 hours went by before I got a Drive Train Malfunction issue. Turns out it had the leaky coolant tank and it was already replaced once along with the coils being changed out 3 times previously. I took it right back to the dealer to have them fix it. I purchased a bumper-to-bumper warranty to avoid any future issues that may arise. All in all it's a fantastic car and I'm so ready for the dealer to call me once it's done so I can actually enjoy it.

Great video Matt ! Some known problems that happened to me on my 2020 f90 was engine misfires due to a bad fuel injector and a bad transfer case. My vehicle was not modded when this happened.

The car was never modded, I literally said that earlier. It had very low compression causing the misfires. The transfer case is a pretty known issue for guys who really drive this car.

@@terrancejackson5167 i have not heard of transfer case issues on stock cars… unless the wheel and tire setups are too aggressive and outside of tolerance.

Been watching a couple of your M5 videos and this one couldn’t have came at a better time! I currently have a TLX Type-S and I am pretty inclined to trade up for an F90 M5 in the coming months. Your video is really helpful! Never knew the 2018 didn’t have a Competition trim level. I’m set on getting a 2020 or newer M5 Comp that’s got optioned up (though I prefer a 2021+ LCI, but I won’t turn down an amazing deal on a well optioned 2020 F90 Comp should I come across one) I figure based off the two main issues you mentioned with the F90s I should definitely get a really good extended/3rd party powertrain warranty. Thanks for the informative video Forte, will be test driving some M5s this summer.

Glad it helped. Be careful on some third party warranties as they may not cover anything. If you address the issues early you should not have a problem in the future

Most 2020's can use the OEM Head unit from the LCI's, basically plug n play.

Ya I meant the upgrade on the 2020 to the 12.3 from the 2021+. Plug n play upgrade. Another reason the 2020 is the best imo.

Great overview. Been in the market for a low mileage F90. Was leaning 2019 for the old display I like more but with the trans upgrade and interior features I think the 21 might be the way to go. Not really in to the tuning stuff 617 hp is plenty.

Informative video, thanks. Considering a late /2019 low mileage pre-lci M5, as a daily driver, but putting less than 10k miles each year and no plans to mod or track.. Sounds like it's not a ridiculous proposition, if you get a good example, with any recalls done and issues should be ironed out by then? I'm thinking I could live with the suspension in a non-competition and without the badges most wouldn't know it's an M5? Otherwise an LCI M550i, but the N63 still has a bad rep.. now undeserved, maybe?

Matt...thanks for this video brother. Sometimes (rarely), my '19 Competition's idle dips like it wants to cut out upon starting, but then she catches herself. I was wondering if it was a fuel issue....just bought the car too. I may wait until it gets more severe, but it's not really an issue now unless you advise me otherwise.

Dealing with a coolant tank leak issue now. Happened before I bought the car and it was not properly repaired. Coolant damaged all injectors and coils on the driver side. Dealer only replaced the tank. Now I have a $3600 repair bill that I’m fighting with BMW Corp now.

For the DIY people, if you stay up on your maintenance and address the big 2 items you should be good… the only other major thing once you get close to 100k would be rod bearings… not sure if warranties will cover those
