Interested in more G20 M340 related videos. Also, on the ECS site it doesn't show this kit as compatible with any G20 models.

This looks pretty involved. Taking mine to the shop. How much should this service cost at a Indy shop? Would you service xdrive and differentials at the same time?

When you released the gearbox subframe, what was the gearbox hanging off? The transmission bell housing via the engine mounts?

ECS tuning, if you manage to get one of the charged hybrid ZF8 and/or mild hybrid ZF8 transmissions on your table, could you show us in more detail what they have that is different from each other and what is similar and can be interchangeably used? I have had a wish to upgrade my MHEV to PHEV. From what I understood, the 4th gen ZF8 has 15 kW electro motor inside to help with the stop-start and with the initial vehicle movement at lower speed. But since the MHEV and PHEV follow similar logic, hypothetically speaking, one could use the PHEV ZF8 or just switch the electro motors and upgrade batteries in the vehicle to get an improvised PHEV. I am aware that such task requires comprehensive knowledge of more than just transmission types, compatibilities and their mechanics, but also wiring, electric engineering and software engineering. But for now I would just like to see what are the differences and similarities between these two models and if upgrading one to another might be doable within margins of effort and time considered reasonable.

how with the bmw 530e, 545e plug in hybrid it has no torque converter is the oil change different with less oil

There should be a class action lawsuit against BMW (& other manufacturers) for saying that the transmission fluid doesn’t get changed because that’s total crap (like my transmission). My 2009 BMW 1 series 128i convertible has transmission issues and only 116k miles. The previous owner never changed the fluid per BMW and now it shudders in 4th & 5th gears when I drive it in full automatic mode. If I manually shift it drives fine with no shudder. If there has been a schedule to change the fluid and the previous owner had it done this most likely wouldn’t be a problem. Now I’m screwed with a transmission that is not going to last very long. It’s a crime to not have a schedule to maintain it. I read up on this and found that there is no coolant flush, or trans flush, or diff flush or fuel filter that is scheduled by BMW. That’s criminal on the part of BMW. No wonder BMWs have so many issues. I’m sick of auto makers misinforming customers on these maintenance issues. BMW should be forced to either replace transmissions that have issues like mine or replace the entire car. Won’t ever buy another BMW ever again. And good luck selling my car without replacing the transmission!!

I've seen multiple videos on this and not one dropped or removed the transmission cross member brackets.

Because of the limit amount of room around the fill plug, BMW has a specific tool to access it. We wanted to show how to perform this DIY without that specific tool to show that this job can be done without it.

What is the connector socket and why mess with it? Never seen that mentioned in any other fill vids for this transmission.

It's essentially a seal for the wiring harness inside of the transmission. After some time they can start to leak. It's good practice to change this fitting when conducting a fluid change at the recommended interval
@BMWcare26 күн бұрын
No it's not. Only renew if wet/leaking. @@ecstuning

Is it necessary to add any type of sealant to new oil pan?
@wingedhussar55283 ай бұрын
Do NOT add anything except the transmission fluid.
@kjhnsn72963 ай бұрын
Yes. Use fresh fluid to lightly coat the pan and pump gaskets to ensure good seals.

Thank your for the video. Just to give you guys some feedback, in the EU, Meyle produces one of the lowest quality parts from all the OEM or OE producers out there, at least for BMW.

My question is, when you change the oil like this and don't put it on a machine to pump it out, do you get all of the old oil out of the system?
@opachki83256 ай бұрын
you don't. You'll need a gearbox flush instead of a fluid change/swap
@chrisb7161Күн бұрын
FYI a trans fluid flush is not recommended as it can easily damage the transmission and torque converter. It’s advised to only do a fluid change!

My dealer quoted $1200 about a year or so ago. A highly rated local indy wanted $1100 in that same time frame. As a regular DIY'er I simply bought the ZF kit from FCP Euro for a fraction of that. I'll do it myself.
@kjhnsn72963 ай бұрын
Done. Relatively straight forward. For my 535, there is no need to remove a transmission cross member and support it, etc in order to get to the fill plug. I used a simple Allen key with a small pipe extension for additional leverage. It is critically important to monitor the transmission oil temperature during the second fill. You WILL NEED A SCAN TOOL with this functionality in order to get your final fill right. If you don't have one, Foxwell 510 Elite is a nice add to your tool kit and can be had for $140 - $180.
