Does that obd thing need to be wired to anything? or just plug into the obd port

Yes it plugs into the the obd port but is split so after you plug in the steering wheel box there is a connector left to be used for diagnostics tools etc (if that makes sense)

I got the same exact one, I have a code keeps coming on. “Driver assistance reduced” any tips on how to clear that?

Hmm that’s weird. Maybe remove the airbag and see if the wires are pinched or not securely pushed in. Did it come on right after the install? Or shortly after?
