Great stuff. Even if you double or triple the cost of charging (at the right places), you’re still better off.

Looking to buy an i3. Great video, very informative...first one to really clarify the charging tariffs and against some very good mpg petrol and diesel cars.

Informative Update - Thank you. I have a 2016 i3 REX, purchased used BMW CPO in July 2018 ($17,500USD). Excluding 2020 COVID working from home very little miles. I usually average 38,000 miles annually. 160 mile round trip daily commute. I have a home charger .085 USD KW and I get free charging at work. My REX use varies drastically between winter and summer. Rarely use DCFC so I did not include here. Previous car 2014 BMW 328GT premium fuel. Using today's Premium fuel costs at $5.00 USGal. I would be spending $7,400 just for commuting. Averaging my REX Spend over 12 months ($2,400 annual) and my home charging ($800) I am at $3,200. $4,200 USD annual savings. If I had to pay for charging at work I would estimate another $1,000 USD annually, so my savings would drop to $3,200. Not as exact as your excellent overview - but, anyone in USA considering a used BMW i3 here are some achievable savings. Side note, I have the smallest BMW I3 Battery pack, with newer I3 larger battery pack my REX use would be substantially reduced also tires last about 20,000 miles at best. $800 to replace.

Cheers for that, yep public charging prices are all over the place and going up. If you can best bet is home charge on off peak tarrif + solar panels on house

I bought one of the last new i3s in May. First 1000 miles got 13.6 kWh per 100km which I think is a little better than you, but mainly urban off peak journeys with little motorway. One think worth adding is HMRC allows 45p per mile for business trips, so one month I ‘made money’.

Cant get over the £140 per tyre cost of these though

Cost is ok as long as they last a decent amount of time. Ours is on 18k miles are the moment and they still have plenty life left. It’s a different story on our Q4 E-Tron- the original Bridgestones were around £250 each and lasted 13k miles 🤦‍♂️😱

True though i do not have loads of spare money and would be my luck to have them go sooner than later Currently i have a 500e lease which goes back in feb and had to replace front tyres at 9k miles Luckily was covered under maintenance. I want to buy a used EV but only can afford 14k. And i am not someone who can just drive any car as need to like it, wanted a i3 but the costs foe things seem to be more on this than others. Was looking at a 2020 zoe...horrod on the outside but inside is oo but then removing air bags for cost cutting and it failings safety tests is a no no. And the only other car i like i can get for maybe 15k at a stretch is a e208...but i sat in one and can not see the digital instrument screen as no matter how i moved things the top of the steering wheel blocked it. So i may end up going back to petrol unfortunately

@@marklola12 wow, 9k for tyres is pretty poor! I’ve got a friend with a Zoe, and one with an E-208 and the i3 is in a different league in terms of performance. Even my Q4 feels slow compared to it! Range is better than those too. The i3 definitely divides opinion, people either love it or hate it! I love it as every journey feels like an event. Costs for bodywork etc will be different for the i3 as it’s all plastic panels over carbon fibre reinforced plastic. Tyres are a little more as they’re an unusual size (very narrow but 19” rims), but nothing else should be much more as there’s not much to maintain (unless you get a REX version). I’ve done a video about the i3 after two years of ownership- it’s my channel somewhere lol
