BMW iX - These are things that bother me

What's your favorite thing in the BMW iX? What about the least favorite?

We own a white M60. I love how tech-y it is. Love the hand gestures. Love the lane keep. Love the rear wheels’ counter-steering (makes it super nimble). I love the WB sound system (best of the high-end setups). I love how small it looks from the outside but feels huge inside (I’m 300 lbs). I agree with the lack of frunk (biggest con) and cup holder placement. Overall, the saddest part is the lack of EV infrastructure around the US, and I think BMW should really invest in that.

I think BMW is investing heavily in infrastructure but it seems to be slow progress. Not sure wha the hold up is

did 10500 km in ix40 so far.. Love IX .. heated radars -dont let your safety down in snow, self cleaning cameras and assisted drive that auto overtakes cars better than tesla... (i.e. you have sensors fusion which feels safer than tesla (cross traffic avoidance is still better in tesla however)) Love space, self parking, steering wheel shape, AR view... adaptive lights (could be better however ,)) Love build in recorder (just 30 sec is not enough retroactively to start recording ) what i Miss: 1st.- V2X..... common its 2024... lot of value of your car is in the battery this car should have 3kW power outlet for electric BBQs and camping in nature :p (and home UPS) 2nd.- please make 150KW battery version in 2025 with >200KW charging till 60% Yes you dont need big battery.. mostly ... but even if it gives peace of mind if something happens it is a feature which will make customers happy and they will feel safety from the car .. car they can rely on even if at night when they will have to drive suddently 300km on highway as fast as possible without stopping to charge 3rd. Electric range based on last x km - Chart as tesla got ...if iam overshooting or undershooting helps me to travel in peace and confidence 4th: Camera around car... so side mirrors have a camera but its utilization is nowhere near visibility and easiness how BYD did it... where i can see on full screen front wheels when rolling close to tight parking curbs... on BMW i can drive based on cameras +- 15 cm... on BYD +-2cm 5th (my kid requested) We rented also BYD Atto 3- Interior colours should chnage as stroboscope when playing songs stationary :p (Like your PF24 app in infotaiment app)

I have the IX 50...the digital controls can be managed via voice command, so his note re buttons is a bit off. This car is the most remarkable vehicle I have ever owned.

I have the iX M60 2023 since 2022, and I love it. I can't drive another car. 😂 The frunk-less doesn't bother me as I don't need it. I love the space, the stirring wheel, and the less buttons. I use voice commands, especially with the temp controls and the seat massage, and they work seamlessly for me. The crystals are a plus aesthetics. The sound system is superb for a sound fanatic like me. In sports mode, I feel the seat hugs me as if I'm in a bucket seat. If you have this car, I hope you're enjoying yours.

Completely agree with your pros/cons. Until Level 3 autonomous driving systems are standard in the industry, there needs to be BUTTONS. Also don't understand the floating console love (iX, EV9); it presents a safety hazard should things placed on the floor roll to the driver's side. BMW forgot about functionality and went a little overboard with style instead. Glad some of these have been addressed in the new i5, although the i5 still needs more buttons.

Not sure if it's a safety hazard or not, I'm not a car engineer or designer, but they do look a bit odd. I'm sure there is a reason behind it, will try to ask the design team next time I see them.

con: wish the iX has the split tailgate of the X5, my guess is they didn't use one because of additional weight. con: in the U.S., lack of an OEM tow hitch. (though there are now a couple of 3rd party options)

He complained first thing about the lack of a frunk, yet at around 2:40 he mentioned he really loved the extra space in the front seating area because BMW "pushed" everything Forward... to the "engine bay". Other realize what he's saying, right?

I don't think they are related. The packaging could have been done just like in the i3 which has a frunk. Sure, there is a front motor but some space could be found there if engineered. I personally talked to the engineers about that and it sounded it came down to cost.

@bmwblog, Horatio thanks for your latest video. Some people on various forums have complaint that the fan for Ventilated seats makes too much noise. Is that something you can confirm since your M60 will definitely have that option ? Some folks don't recommend ordering that on custom build. Also, how effective is it compared to X5 ?

Issue: battery temperature status. I’d really like the preheat screen, charging display and phone app to tell me battery temperature in winter. I can do that from an OBD adapter and A Better Route Planner -which will warn me current temp is -3 C -I want to know what it is as I approach a charging station and what it’s temp is on a charge. The phone view would let me see this while I was away from the vehicle and the OBD sensor out of range. The car knows the temperature, it is invaluable in winter to predict charge rates and yet it’s hidden away.

Issue: multi-user system works for a fleet of drivers but not a family, and doesn’t support the use case “driver swap during charging session” if you switch users on a long drive it will forget where it was going to. And (iDrive8) you can’t do a complex route plan with multiple charging stops on your phone and then download: you can set up multiple stops in the car -but if that gets cancelled (accidentally hitting the “finish flag” on the screen or swapping users) that’s all gone. We now have just one user (my wife), my key downgraded to “guest” and out phone longs both set to her. Then with all our favourite charging points listed as favourites, I can more easily set up a route plan from the car: unlock and log in as her, program in the chain of stops and then go from there. If it does get cancelled, well, we’ve got those destinations to recover. Now, if I could save an extended route for reuse-the way apps like A Better Route Planner- does.

And bmw contracts are bonded to users so my phone with my login has the charge contract (I can kick off charging through the app), but she can’t-though she can still use the card. Once our year’s charge contract expires then I’ll be logged in as her and we can both send destinations to the same account, etc. and we’ve learned when we stop to charge -leave both keys with whoever is sitting in the car so we don’t get the automatic locking kicking off while there’s someone in the driver seat.

I have a 2024 IX M60, and I wish I had waited for the 2025 model year, which is already available in Europe and as early as March 2024 in the U.S. The 2025 receives the new M-style steering wheel and dark accents for the interior instead of gold and bronze. Carbon fiber trim for the M60 would have been nice! We do need that trailer hitch and the IX has it, except BMW doesn't provide it for the US market. ?? It is often hard to put the kid's bike in the back. I also wished the range was better. So far, I am very disappointed with the range and the charging time. I hate the fact that BMW and other automakers get away with the "up to" range. What does that mean? I also wished they had the rear window sunshade. All my other BMW SAVs had them. One would think that for a special car like IX they would have one.

Which M style steering? I have not seen it yet. The charging time was fine for me with the latest curve update. The range so and so in the winter. Up to means that it's based on wheel sizes. This is why they use that term

The electronics of Tesla is so popular so BMW has tried to do the same infact Tesla has done huge profits with its model even Mercedes’ EQC model owns Tesla batteries manufactured in Korea but Mercedes was ashamed to declare that on its reviews!

Yes, not idea. But I do wonder how they could have been integrated. I looked at that center console area and it's not easy. I guess put them on top?

Maybe an improved e90 design where they recess into the front of the dash and slide out when needed, anything would be better than the current design it’s completely flawed

There is enough room on the top section of the center console to put the cup holders , if BMW had opted to build the center console all the way connecting with the dash, it would have been possible. The empty space between the existing cup holder console and the dash serves no reasonable purpose in my view.

600 horses comes with these seats really ridiculıus and also back seats should have electric folding if there is its good but baggage compartment cover is strange like my peugeot 208 built in 2012. It is cheap not suits BMW

Why are all the dealerships using this ugly display screen? They look like something they just added on as an afterthought. They have enough time. They make enough money to embed these screens into the dash and make it look much better

I get it about the frunk. I agree with that but again, some customers read about the lack of it and that becomes a selling point.

Frunks are a good place to keep a type 2 cable, as the rear underfloor space isn’t accessible once you load the vehicle with luggage -and if you get the cable wet after charging in the rain, it’s nice to have somewhere you put the wet cable

@@juliusperseus8612 well, if it’s not in the trunk/boot on top of everything then it’s behind the driver seat, which works provided you only have one passenger in the back and haven’t got that full of stuff. My last multi day trip I did just leave it under the floor-but there I was confident I’d be using DC on the journey and only need AC at the destination, after unloading. Some space up front would just remove this concern
