Who’s ready for an almighty BMW tug-of-war?!
We’ve got our hands on two of the heaviest BMW SUVs around, the all-new all-electric iX, and the BMW X7 M50! The question is, which is the ultimate pulling machine?
Well, let’s check out the stats. Starting with the iX, it’s powered by two electric motors that can deliver 523hp and 765Nm. It’s pretty heavy, too, tipping the scales at 2,510kg!
As for the X7, it’s actually slightly lighter than the iX, weighing in at 2,490kg! However, it’s got slightly more power, clocking in at 530hp & 750Nm of torque. It’s got one key advantage though - a towing capacity of 3,500kg, compared to the iX’s 2,500kg capacity!

these test don’t tell you if a car is good or bad. they show you if the awd is working neither car had problems. The winner is usually the heavier car, often you don’t want your car to be too heavy. the ix is way too heavy for it’s size but it’s a typical for an electric car

Without Offroad tires this is pointless, at least do it on the normal road in these tires

with off road tires they will simply have more traction but will still perform similarly because they all have enough torque for all 4 wheels. With off road tires the traction is still lower than on tarmac and these cars have the capability to spin all wheels even on tarmac. With weights being close, it will come down to the driver skill to find the best traction depending on the surface

They can't, and they won't, especially on these vehicles costing about a hundred grand. Doing this on tarmac or asphalt will destroy stuff on both vehicles, like the clutch, parts of the drivetrain and obviously the tyres, among other things. Them doing it in mud/grass softens the strain on the vehicles' drivetrain while driving home the point of tug of war, in the safest way possible for both drivers and vehicles.

matt went bit dumb, he spun up the wheels and lost traction, one of the reasons why almost all offroaders have short range gearbox is to avoid spinning up wheels, and go slower, more controllable way. i think if matt went to short range, turned all differential locks on and slowly added gas, he will probably win. instead, he went to high range, put all diff locks off, and spun up wheels. it is like driving in winter on packed snow

@@eugene9852 well the chassis of the mercedes is actually pretty good for severe applications, as it has simillar suspension design as lada niva, which proved very good in offroad. its big problem is the very unreliable and complicated engine and DSG automatic transmission, which fail in severe conditions. offroader should be not only about capabilities, but also about reliability and repairability in severe conditions. the DSG gearbox is a road gearbox designed for fast gear changes, but not for working in severe terrain. also realize how many sensors and electronic parts are there. you are in -30 degree weather and your gearbox stopped working only because of one little failed sensor. then it does not matter how much you paid, you are pretty much lost. and things like suzuki jimny, lada niva, or an good old simple military UAZ, (where you had to use a ten milimeter wrench to adjust the seat) and they all have manuals, and they cannot fail because of gearbox sensor. germans are good at making comfortable and fast road cars, but definitely not offroaders and military vehicles, desighed for severe conditions with minor maitenance, because they are building them like a limousine, that will have maitenance on time, drive on german autobahn and never see a pothole...

Should have both used off road tyres or try it on tarmac. Summer tyres on wet grass isnt going to do you a lot of good no matter how much power. Actually slightly less power in this situation is better as at the initial start less likely to get as much will spin. That's why the electric car also failed. It has too much bottom end instant torque.

@@ramqashou1002 its not that simple to just press the throttle, its about how and when you press it accordingly to how the tires are gripping the surface, also it seemed moving the steering was helping him, so there is a little skill involve, only if driver was changed we would know for sure
