Hi there. I am considering a k1200gt with 42k kilos. How's the wind protection and ride at speeds up to 200kph? Also how's the wind buffeting? I ask because I test rode a k16gt, and was disappointed with how much of wind buffetting there was on that bike..... thanks in advance

These sell for about $3000 - $4000 in my area with low miles... I know it's almost 20 years old but you think it's worth getting one of these? Will I hate myself because the maintenance is soooooo difficult?

Braca Ganon I’m in a similar situation. In my case, I got a guy nearby who said, without any hesitation, he could service it. He had a flying brick back in the day and loved it, though these days he rides a K1600
@ababbit74615 жыл бұрын
Brace Ganon, rear main seals were a problem as was the final drive. IF the rear main seal goes out so does your clutch (leaks on to the clutch). Also, the clutch slave cylinder went out on these and the same thing happened as if the rear main seal goes out. The clutch gets wet and is then needing to be replaced (dry clutch system). I had one and mine went out. Cost me $2,000 USD in 2017 to have it done. My 2002 Kawasaki ZX12R got up to 185 mph on the Pyramid Hwy from Sparks to Pyramid Lake, in Nevada (northern NV). There is a 3 miles stretch right past the BLM Wild Horse stable areas that you can test the speed and I did in 2011... The ZX12R is a better bike, but if you like quirky BMWs get the newer BMW K1200R Sport, K1200R, K1200S with the inline 4 cylinder - they are as fast at the ZX12R I had (I had a 2007 K1200R Sport too). I had a 1998 K1200RS with the checker flag paint job. Great "roll on" power motor at 50 mph....

Don't overfill the transmission fluid, leave a gap in the glass and it won't spill into the main seal. Left to it's own devices and proper quantity of oil, it should be bullet-proof

This is one of the last BMWs with servo-assisted ABS. When that thing shits the bed it can be a problem because the units aren't easily rebuildable and parts are hard to find or crazy expensive.

@Miley-RayStewart10 ай бұрын
If you listen closely. His engine keeps revving a little bit after he pulled the clutch on every shift. He does that, because he does want to be fast. So the engine keeps rising and powering, and then he lets the clutch come ultra-fast, which is also a high use of it. The only worse thing I do know for the clutch is those people, that completely remain on the gas throttle and shift by only using the clutch. In other words. It would have less use if he would also shortly let go of the gas or even remember the ideal rpms. This is why people do "revvmatch" while downshifting, to minimize the clutch use. (But then, as well, some do it so harshly wrong, that it brings the opposite along with it.) You do have two plates on the clutch and the higher the force and rpm is, the more they "suffer" at shifting, because they are meant for suffering the difference. The higher the difference, the higher the suffer from the clutch. @@Freebyrd1991

Well I have Japanese sport bikes .... Half the cc twice the power ... And about 50-60% MORE speed .... About 70-80% less labor ..... And 100% cheaper to run and maintain,insure,maneuver,etc ........ They can keep the Euro trash for the wannabe rich brats and posers .... I'll just stick with raw power ,speed,and performance on MY ugly and much faster bike lol
@zackworrell4 жыл бұрын
You'll have a 1/4 the resale too. I have nothing against Japanese bikes or cars but I'm sorry they are NOT to the build of European or American bikes. Efficient, fast, reliable...yes but style, build quality, or character and resale...nope. In America most motorcyclists ride as a hobby for style and cultural appeal, Japanese bike only do this when they've been customized and built up. You can walk in a Ducati dealership and buy sexy style right off the lot, same with HD, Triumph, and BMW. You're missing the point. My son races for Honda on a CRF250R, but his dream is to ride for KTM. Put away the divisive "fuck yall" attitude and just be happy people like motorcycles like you do because the industry is dying.
@frankmoser62514 жыл бұрын
Well isn't that pretty much what i said? .... But REALLY the Japanese bikes are WAY better looking and sexier than a dorky triumph or nerdy cop like bmw and the Ducati sounds like a cheap go cart ( shitiest sounding bike made) American bikes ALWAYS suck ( why do you reckon they ALWAYS go out of business or merge with Japan like Harley Davidson .....I'll NEVER care for ANY of the overpriced USA junk or eurotrash because it's an inferior product in EVERY way ( if the "patriots" want to keep overpaying for em that'd be fine with me I'm definitely NOT a patriot ..... People need to park their pride if they want the coolest ride lol
