Thank you for maintaining this bike in its original form and glory, and not mutilating it into a cafe racer or scrambler! Nicely done!

No problem! I did dally with the cafe racer style a few years ago and put a set of drop bars on it and a K100 seat. It is great fun for about 20 miles and then the pain sets in. i prefer the effortless gentlemen's ride of the original.

@@johnnysevengun I just picked up a 1996 K1100LT. My first BMW. I’m usually a Gold Wing rider, but have dabbled with a C10 Councours which I really enjoyed. The BMW riding experience is unique.

I had a K1100LT for two years and fully restored it. It was just too heavy for where I was riding it.

Smart way to replace the clutch cable. I have a second hand 1991 K75RT with nearly 100.000km today. Nice and reliable bike, no major failures, i do " little" maintenance by myself. Replaced the clutch calble with a " bycicle" one, just the metal wire. I had to creatively work on the clucth end to apply the head which goes in the lever recess. Very little euros for that and a lot of satisfaction in doing that. Now i have a question for all of you bikers about the alluminium fuel tank leaking. I have got 2 little holes in the bottom corner just below where the pump is seated. My opinion about the cause: foud the metal of the sending unit badly rusted. The little powder of rust " attracted " by the pump in its area and accumulated in the bottom. ALUMINIUM +IRON+WATER= A perfect receipe for galvanic current!!!! This apart, do you have any experience/ suggestion to fix ( welding? Any resin to apply internally/externally? Paint the whole tank internally?....). Tks in advance for your contribution Antonio (Rome-Italy)

The best repair is to have it welded. Mine was done about 15 years ago and is still good. You can see it in this video at 1.02. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGXIlqlppZuaa7M

With the cable i would worry that the outer cable sleeve has rotted away like it did on mine. It only cost about 18GBP and gives 20 years service.

Tks for the prompt reply. I have seen your video. The tank has a week pointer below the pump. What do you think about the " galvanic" cause? Antonio

@@antoniosidoni5310 I think you are right. Metal particles sit in the bottom and react with the tank. It takes about 20 years though.
