Thank you so much for this precise video. I had called a local mechanic to ask what he charged for an oil change before I decided to do those myself also, and he casually threw in, "and we usually change the cabin air filter when we do an oil change". I played along and asked what he would charge for that and he said something like $80 for the filter and $80 for labor! I had already purchased my own filter though hadn't located this video yet. But what a rip off for anyone who feels these relatively simple projects are beyond their ability. I just put my filter in now, 11 PM, and it took maybe 10 minutes. Something like $130 saved. So thank you again. You couldn't have made this any more clear and simple and I didn't need to explore to discover which Torx I'd need and what mm ratchet head to have ready! If you ever consider posting a video on changing a windshield washer pump, it will be welcome! I could only find videos relating to 3 series which were helpful. But when I pulled my wheel off and unbolted the wheel well liner today, accessing the fluid housing where the pump mounts into was a dead end. Not wanting to do any damage I buttoned everything back up to fight another day! So hopefully you'll continue to help the inept among us! Thank you!

This is exactly why I do these videos! Save people money, help them out and to teach them how to work on their own cars. 💪 I'm glad you were able to get you maintenance done. I'm just getting the time to start making more videos since things have changed here around the house, given the current situation. I hope you're well and thanks for checking out my channel!

Changing the cabin air filter in my M2 was so difficult that I quit because I couldn't get the cover of the filter holder off ! I did everything this video showed to do except that. You may call it easy but "standing on my head" for a few minutes is not at all comfortable. When I went to replace the under dash cover in which the footwell light is attached, I could not get the plastic tabs to reseat. I am going to the BMW dealer and he will complete the job for $63. I bought the filter a couple months ago. By the way, I am almost 80 years old, maybe that's part of the problem, hahahahah

Thanks for the instructional video. BMW recommended replacing the filter with my oil service. It was a ridiculous price so I declined. I purchased a BMW OEM Cabin Air Filter on Amazon for $24.90 and installed it in 15 minutes due to the video. Thanks, again.

Well OK, I couldn’t do it because my arm was messed up I hurt my rotator cuff so I did the next best thing I got my stepson to come over. I was able to take the cover off instructions he said 10 mm so that came off easy then I was stuck so he came over and it was a 20 mm torx Using a light on the phone he found a two bolts unscrewed them took the cover off I gave him the filter put it the right way the arrow was pointing put the marker on it like you said the date at the two screws back in clamp it down then He put the cover on I guess he spent like maybe 15 minutes at the most. We saved about $100 in labor+🤙

I am glad I found your video, dealer would have definitely charged me over $200s in total to do the filter replacement. Quite an odd place for the filter thou, from your video I thought the filter is somewhat closer to the passenger seat but it is way back in the foot well. Had to position myself like a contortionists on my passenger seat to get to the filter. But I got it done in less than 20 mins. even the most difficult part of fitting the trim piece back in the end was easy. Thanks for the video. you saved the day. Next I think I will try do my own oil change and spark plugs.

Man, I am just doing RESEARCH on buying a 240i and found your vid. Great! I hope you have more - if I end up buying it. Any overall advice on buying a used 2017 with about 18000m on it?
@TheWrenchLab4 жыл бұрын
On any used car one of my biggest pieces of advice is having the inspected by a trusted shop or mechanic. With that, even if there is a clean Carfax, there is a chance something wasn't reported, or it hasn't hit there system yet. That can even happen at ANY dealer. Is there a warranty on the vehicle? Get the vin and call a BMW dealer to ask about it. I bought mine from Carmax but some items were was still covered under BMW's warranty. Carmax also does a type of 30 day warranty on certain items. I would do some research into different options that are available. There are things that my car has that other M235i's don't, that I just figured were standard features. There are a few big differences between the M235 and the M240 one being the motor. Check out this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3WopIhme86habc The B58 motor has tons of potential. If I were in the used car market, I would be looking into the M240i tbh! This topic could be a whole video based on my opinion and knowledge of buying a used BMW. Do your research and I hope you find a great car! Thanks for checking out my channel! 🙏If you do get a BMW I'm hope you can find some of my videos helpful. 😁 🤙

The quality is a little different based on price. Order both, return one? I'd advise on getting one with the carbon/charcoal in it. They help with any funky oders in the car... Like my musky whip! In the beginning, in was just referencing all the parts I had ordered for the megabuild videos. 😁

Should the arrow on the aftermarket filter (air flow direction) point to the rear of the car? The arrow on the original filter seems to indicate front of vehicle (based on the curvature and which side was dirty), not direction of airflow. Your confirmation would be appreciated!

Vent normal and cools right but front doesn't work. Can tou saw anything like It on BMW ? Or what technical data could you share. Thanks.
@TheWrenchLab5 жыл бұрын
Under the dash there are several flaps that control where the air flow goes. I think one of flap controllers either got disconnected or broke. The default will always direct air towards the defrost vent to the windshield when that happens. I'm not familiar with your 535 but BMW's are all pretty much the same. You should be able to check that out in the passengers or drivers side footwell. With the fan on, play with the switch that contols where the flow should be going. See if there are any flaps/arms that don't move. I'm not sure what year your car is but check out this link and find your year/model car. If you're good at looking at pictures and finding the corresponding parts, you can try to find the actuator motors/arms that control the flaps. I hope this helps! www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=DT63-USA---E39-BMW-530i&diagId=64_1136
