this is the only channel on KZbin that has an f30 model water pump replacement, every other channel i've seen is for E90. thank you sir!!

Thanks for sharing this brother, it's literally still the only F30 N55 water pump video. I have much knowledge on the process already, having replaced tons of stuff already, but I'm tackling my F30 N55 water pump this morning and it's nice to get a refresher.

ATTENTION - Easier access to the thermostat is through the passenger front wheel well,, remove the wheel liner and the thermostat with the clamps screws right in from of you with tons of space and wiggle room.

Just did this on my xdrive, the huge subframe made this a pain, but not impossible by any means. Guys, if you remove the cooling fan , the thermostat is right there.

Thanks for the video!! Wanted to make one for this but it was such a messy job and my camera helper was gone for the day. Got the thermostat and water pump out and installed in about hour and a half, I didn't need to disconnect the bottom air hose and if you have skinny arms like me it's just enough room to work. Glad I didn't attempt to remove the fan, what a nightmare! lol

Great job. I have this job lined up as preventative maint on a 2014 F30 N55. Didn’t realize it was different from the other vids I’ve watched.

I’m doing the same project. If you do two things, it’s a lot easier. 1) Remove the fan loom connector with a long *ss needle nose plier, and move aside towards the back. 2) Disconnect the coolant line on top with a bleed screw, and move behind the air intake. Then there is much better access from top. I didn’t have to remove the fan. Next steps: Remove the crossover line. Break free the ac line. Now you have access from the top of all of the thermostat. I removed the electrical plug with the long *ss needle nose. Used long *ss pick tool to remove the quick disconnect in front hose. Flexible nut driver to remove both of the other hoses from the top. Then another long *ss pick to remove the last hose. Remove intercooler air line on passenger side from the intercooler, push aside. Pull thermostat from the bottom, finagle out where the water pump was. Install in the reverse order. Then install water pump. Hook up all free hoses.

I had similar issue with the pump, running all the time when car is locked/unlocked and draining battery to death. Replaced it watching your video, but had so many issues with the top bolt of the pump. Didn't have required tools, only pump took me 4 hours. Hoping the issues will be gone ! Thank you ( Did this on 2012 335i )
@hansvandermeesterende6490 Жыл бұрын
And did it fix the problem??? Because i have the same issue now and did order the pump and thermostat.
@Pulisheris Жыл бұрын
Yes, no more battery drainage and pump doesn't work all the time. The pump was the problem. As much as I read, the temperatures causes schematics to failure somehow and triggers the pump to work all the time.@@hansvandermeesterende6490

Great stuff. BTW.. For those who want to replace the thermostat the repair manual has you move the expansion aside by removing one bolt. This will generate better access to the thermostat below. It's also recommended to replace the coolant hoses down there every six years.

I replaced the thermostat from the engine bay without getting under the car. Took me no time.. 20 minutes maybe. Pull intake, remove fan, remove the clamps, pop the springs, make a big mess. put it back together. Easy

Thank YOU for making this. Its conflicting indeed. Some 335i use the thermo with 2 mounting screws. Some don't. I need to replace mine and the part came with no mounting screws like every other video on KZbin. Your video is the only one that shows this. Thank you again. I'll know for sure this weekend when I replace mine.
@raulmartinez3484 Жыл бұрын
Some kits don't come with the mounting bolts. If possible, buy steel bolts instead of the OEM aluminum bolts. The steel bolts can be reused and are more durable.

I have check the engine light on my 328i 2013, first when I've test with obd2 shows a lin bus error, CD8E10, CD8E12 I've replaced the accumulator regulator anything has been changed. then added CD9010 and 1D2404. A mechanic told me that the pump communication module blocks the signal puts the whole network in emergency and turns on the check engine for that the water pump should replace. Should I?

Good video..on my 2013 328i, I did this on ramps and without the drag of the body on the chassis, had to lift the engine a bit to get to the bottom bolts.

Question... what were your symptoms? I have a 2012 F30 335i that just blew the vent hose (from expansion tank to top radiator hose). I replaced it but it has a check engine light on and a P0128 code and 3 U1408s that I can read. Seem like the temperature gauge is not showing the car warm up at all. Starting to think I have more issues than that one bad hose I replaced.

The water pump and thermostat on a newer BMW after the F series are not prone to failing as often as those found in the older series like the E series models. The main reason why the water pump fails often on a older BMW model is because of a design flaw by BMW where the motor blower burns out the water pump thus causing it to fail prematurely.
@zanastumasonis Жыл бұрын
motor blower? what part are you referring to? fan failing then burning out water pump?@@raulmartinez3484

@CZ-57 Жыл бұрын
No
@raulmartinez3484 Жыл бұрын
It is not a must. If the thermostat was never replaced and your water pump is going out, it might be a good idea to replace the thermostat while you are at it.

Thanks for sharing this. Did you replace these parts as preventative maintenance or because they failed? I'm approaching 115k miles on my F30 335i but the cooling system is operating fine. I'm contemplating replacing it now or wait until failure.
@peshehodetz086 жыл бұрын
You can do it as preventive maintenance. I read in some of BMW forums that is good idea to replace water pump + thermostat every 60 - 70k miles. You can find oem parts cheaper online and do it by yourself as shown in the video. If you co to BMW dealer will be 2-3 times more expensive.
