I remember the Long Way Round series with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boreman. Was amazed how much punishment these bikes could take. Started a massive sales revolution for the GS. That's a good condition machine for its age
@RRRRefuelRideRace2 жыл бұрын
Have to agree Richard. The GS went through different stages, but the last 15 years were crucial for its success. Thanks for this comment bro. This one was regularly serviced.

They did well cause they had a truck load of spares,and a disclaimer from BMW about highlighting problems... Although generally reliable, they are too heavy, and under powered. The drive system saps power, and most are pushing a paltry 70hp. Nice bikes of a bygone era, but at current age, plastic cam chain guides are breaking, rear seals/bearings are going, poor wind protection (screen is miles in front), and agricultural gearbox, with a seal ready at any time to let engine oil on the dry clutch.

Thank you for your review. I have one of these bikes, the first Bike I got after 25 years waiting for my children to leave home. Mine is a 2000 year model with six gears and has ABS 2. I bought mine from Japan with 21,000 km on the odometer, in 2011. Have now got 86,000 km on odo. I love this bike but find the clutch is too strong, and also wish it had cruise control. I am an older rider now at 64 and would like the luxury of a quick shifter and cruise control. My BMW mechanic said this engine is the best one they made for the adventure bike range until they made the liquid cooled version. I took the catalytic converter off a few years ago (kept the stock muffler) and the bike is so much stronger through the whole rev range.
@RRRRefuelRideRace Жыл бұрын
I rode the newer and the latest GS. Both are on my channel, so you can check them. Overall this is a wonderful bike. The look may bi a bit old nowadays, but for a true adventure it still rocks. I agree about the clutch. In my opinion they are very durable machines. Appreciate your comment and experience with the bike. Consider subscribing. Every Sunday and Wednesday there is a video. Take care bro and thanks a lot.

This was a nice surprise. I’m glad that you invited me on the Lamb chops Rides KZbin channel to take a pic at yours. It’s very good. Till now I watched the video on the trip to Romania and also the one about the BMW old GS big trail bike the 1150 engine with 137.000 kms on the odometer on a yellow paint job and it was interesting to know the opinion about how well the bike was to ride. Nice job man! I subscribed the channel. More power to you ✌️🤗
