BMW R1150RT GOES ON TOUR PART 3 - To the Lakes

Day 2 dawns to heavy rain as the mighty BMW R1150RT starts the second leg of the tour over to the Lake district for some awesome riding over the passes.
Even in the rain it's still an epic ride, it gets better as the day goes on and the sun finally comes out.

I recognised every one of those lake district roads. A few years ago, I used to deliver wine to various hotels, pubs and restaurants all round the lake district. I used to set off from the distribution warehouse (near Darlington) at 6.00am and not get back to base until 5 or 6pm. I thoroughly enjoyed the job regardless of the weather purely because of the scenery. Wish I was still doing that job.

Just bought one of these and will be picking up in a week, looked at a couple of your posts very interesting, this one perfect. one thought, when you filled up not only did you show your card but when you put it away you turned it over to show the back, don't be fooled in thinking nobody could make out the number. you ride really well but watch what you show.

It's not the Alps nor the Andes nor the Rocky Mountains but that is as satisfying a road and scenery as anywhere else in the world.

Hi, Thanks for the comment, I would really recommend that you get your CBT, you will not regret it. Even with a 125 on L plates you will have a great time. Let me know if you do decide to try it

concidering getting a rt 1150 they look comfy and i'm getting older soon be 60 yuk ive got a tdm 900 at mo will have to get a go on the rt see how it feels

Hi Tom, I've turned 64 last may and you are right, it is yuk! I find the RT comfortable but just a little heavy as I get older. All it means is parking where I can ride out lol

Hi Stumbled across your review of the R1150rt. I'm about to buy one, pretty much identical to yours so the review was extremely helpful. I want to tour on mine, I'm interested to know what satnav mount you use. Looks like from your videos it sits pretty nicely on the dash. Cheers. Definitely doing the Lake District this Spring.

Hi, it's a bracket I made. I took the satnav cradle to B&Q and found a bracket that was wide enough to cover the mounting holes. Drilled new holes to match the cradle and bolted it on. Then held it to top of plastic dash, bent the bracket to give me the angle I wanted and drilled a couple of holes in the plastic. I couldn't get bolts to line up so used good old cable ties. It's in my vision and easy to read. The voice prompts go via Bluetooth to a £20 headset I got on Amazon Hope it helps, enjoy your bike and ride safe, Dave
