Pillion footpegs impossible to remove as suggested on exhaust side, BMW now using super strong thread lock that broke two torx bits to get undone. Really hard to move. Have to remove exhaust to get at them, and then can’t refit exhaust after installing rack, so have to remove rack again to fit exhaust, but can’t then access footpeg screws unless using short torx bit which was broken by then. Did it in the end by undoing installed rack and pivoting around the footpeg hook, fitting exhaust and then pivot back to install rack bolts. Not ideal but hopefully ok.

Definitely not impossible. Just need the right tools and technique. Ultimately you can remove the exhaust pipe. It’s a fairly easy process.

Thanks for the very helpful video. Any suggestion on what torque specs to use on the various bolts? Thanks again.
@stubrown37356 ай бұрын
Hi OM, you kinda fail to mention that you can’t fit this by removing the end can, you can try obviously, but when it comes to re fitting the exhaust… the pannier frame lower stay is right over the exhaust bolt!! For a couple of extra bucks you could include the 10mm 3/8’s T40 bit in the kit. As it’s the only way the frame can be fitted.
@Outbackmotortek6 ай бұрын
You don’t need to remove the muffler. Some people find it easier though
@stubrown37356 ай бұрын
You don’t need to remove the muffler, in fact if you do remove it you won’t be able to get any T40 torx tool to the main mounting bolt to tighten it back up due to the pannier rack you’ve just fitted being in the way of the bolt head.. Ergo, you have to have a short T40 bit you can get a ring spanner onto to loosen the pillion peg mount as per the video.

The 8mm hex bolts i received that attach to the mounting brackets were two types. 2 longer ones and two shorter ones. My question is which ones go where? Shorters ones at the rear mounting brackets or vice versa? Thanks.

@@Outbackmotortek not those one. I’m talking about the bolts outback supplies that attach on the side of the brackets to connect the racks. Outback supplied the four bolts 2 short and 2 slightly longer. Longer ones attach to the front or rear bracket?

is it possible to have this assembled for easier swap between the standard GSA BMW racks and the outback just using the 4 mounting bolts under the seat? am thinking about it as I've a set of SW Motech hard bags on the GSA racks and would leave the SW Motech plates on them and use the outback for my mosko moto bags (would have the wedges permanently attached to the outback racks

You might want to add that you have to remove any Mudsling or similar item. This was not the easy fit I expected, as other posters have identified. And if you're not going to supply any written instructions at least re-shoot the start of the video and warn customers with later model 1250s the problems they will encounter and how to overcome them. Luckily, someone made the effort in the comments. Come on, guys. Not good enough. 😢

@@Outbackmotortek It's not the racks themselves. They are good quality with a decent powder coating. No complaints about them whatsoever. It's the fitting of them. Trying to get a torx bit that would fit in the way you suggested was problematic. Either the thing was too long or short enough but without a shaft that could take a decent sized spanner. You do need to exert some force to loosen them initially. Can I save this faff by suggesting that the back wheel is taken off and a good quality right angled torx key is used to access the footage hanger bolts from underneath. I laid on the floor on my back which made getting access and engaging the torx bit very easy. Your suggestion was a good one and I appreciate your making the video.
