BMW Trunk Will Not Latch

I removed and replace the very same latch mechanism, only to have the trunk refuse to latch. I've run out the adjustment on the striker to its maximum, but it still won't latch. Any ideas? If I remove the latch from the upper trunk, it will snap right onto the striker.

I think your lock is broken I had the same issue at my shop. It would hook on the screwdriver but not on the hinge. I replaced it and it solved the problem. Hope that helps

Similar thing happened to me, and it was one of the wires that pass throught the right arm of the trunk. The one which controls the remote open. In that situation, if i pressed the key botton to open the trunk, it began to work ok again, but the problem resolved definitely when i fix that wires

Had this issue and realized if u close it and press the trunk button again it will lock it in place

You have a small spring in the lock. It breaks very often because of their age. Try to replace or to fix the spring 👍🏼

For those who happen upon this video: The mechanism was weak. It would seem to latch, but if you pulled on it hard it would just pop open. My thumb/screwdriver test was insufficient. The slamming process seemed like it would not latch at all. But if you slowly pressed it closed it would latch, only to pop open with a little pull. I got so frustrated I pulled the rear seat out so I could watch what precisely was going on.

What would you replace if have this issue, the mechanism that pulls the latch cable has gone kaput on mine not sure if it's the motor or what thanks

@@zebfail480 I got a second new mechanism, which would stay latched but not signal "latched" to the car. I had to open up the mechanism and bend the arm on the microswitch to close earlier.

There’s definitely a issue with that mechanism. Same thing happened to mine but have you tried turning the car on and then trying it?

Yes. The problem was that the new latch mechanism was poorly manufactured. Cheap Chinese knockoff. So I got another one, which latched okay, but would not signal "latched" through its electrical connection. So the car thought the trunk was open and would not start! I had to pry it open and bend the arm on the contact switch to trip earlier. Then it worked.

Okay thanks I was having the same problem I would have to slam it real hard few times for it to close and even when it did it would say the trunk was open still,

Disconnect, the electricity from the lock use it manually it would work
