BMW Wallbox Gen 3 (Type 2 connector) for BMW IX, IX3

BMW Wallbox Gen 3 for the BMW IX and IX3. Information on these is pretty limited at the moment since they are new to the market, so I figured I'd do a quick unboxing first look video. No pro content ahead. Just an enthusiast unboxing some hardware :D

Does it support rfid cards ? Or can we use it for different users ? Cuz i m living in an apartment complex and i want a wallbox that i can see the other users consumption if i let them use . Or i ll locked it for not to reachable using by others? Thannks

I just had this installed and the unit is lighting up however no power in the car cable. The instructions do not identify the dip switch locations within the box. What am I doing wrong

Does anyone know which exterior Meter is compatible with this charger? In the 7.0 PDF instructions point it says it has to instal an exterior meter..but no reference about any brand or model

I just installed one today. There was no manual inside box and the car wasn't available. By the way I am only the installer and I got a blue solid light on the wall charger. The owner now is telling me that isn't charging. I know there was dip switches to be set but with no manual I couldn't set them up. Any help? This is a US models with 240v single phase

Hi from Greece, very nice Video! I have a problem, with the switch on I can’t find anywhere authorisation Botton in the app!! with the switch down I can charge a vehicle without any authorisation no problems!! can you please explain what app do you use for authorisation? The app witch is in the manual has no authorisation but with this app I can update the firmware and have charging history from the wall box. is there another app for this charger?

Hello Marios. I don’t believe there’s an app available yet. As far as I’m aware there is an app available in Japan but not for the global market. For now you’re better off leaving the charger set to not require authorisation for charging.

Hi Hugo, I could not pull the charger head out of the wallbox, do you know why?

The tabs that grip the charger inside the wallbox are a tad too “grippy”. You can remove the insert from the wallbox, flatten the tabs slightly and then reinstall. I did this day one since I was having a similar issue with the charger feeling “stuck” in the wallbox.

Hello Denise. It depends on the connector fitted to the charger. The charger is generic in that it can charge any car with a compatible connector :-)

Yes I had to do this when I set up the charger initially. There wasn't really any trick to it. If I recall you just scan the QR code that comes with the Box with the service app installed. It's been a while so my recollection is a bit fuzzy.

I have been trying that. It keeps asking me though to provide the code “displayed” on the charger to pair the Bluetooth and then I get into a cycle of trying to login using admin and the QR code and the prompt for the code

Hi Luis. I'd love to but the Gen 3 wallbox is not yet available in the USA. It's not on any of the part diagrams yet. According to BMW USA's website "The BMW Wallbox (Gen 3) will be available by the end of 2022 from your BMW Center." www.bmwusa.com/charging.html

Mine works perfectly. I installed it myself too. Often times the electricians installing them do not configure the dip switches correctly. In most cases they leave the unit on "authorisation" mode which requires you to authorise before charing, but since there is no app to do that yet you cannot use the charger. Reach out to your local dealership for the installation instructions and ask your electrician to double check the settings.

Hi there. I can't speak for all countries but it should work if the wallbox is supplied in the same country as the i8. For instance, in in NZ we use the Type-2 IEC62196-2 and IEC62196-3 connectors, and the regional wallbox has a compatible plug.

This charger is so annoying. It claims to be 240 volt but only takes three phase power and single phase power. It does not have a wiring diagram for a four wire install, as in two phases, a neutral, and a ground. Which would be 240 volts. Only 120 and 277

Interesting. I had a look at the instructions and can confirm that it shows 3 phase and 1 phase only.
