Have a 2005 BMW X3 was starting just fine turned it off and it’s now stuck in some type of s mode and won’t start or crank

Thank you for your reaction,now we have to start with the basics of a failed car to star, First things first,1.does the ignition ignition turn,if yes .proceed to 2. 2.When you crank start the engine do you hear any clicking noise from the starter motor!,if no check the battery voltage/terminal connection/ battery life then proceed to starter wiring;if yes , you need to hook a diagnostic Scan tool from a qualified technician. @mugalu please respond. I have the same car but my dashboard shows 5.2km/L and I looked as yours and it’s showing 28km/L. Can you advise what could be wrong with my car.. Please help

sorry for the delayed response,the 28km/L means the car is the consumption rate of the car at the moment for every 28km travelled,try to reset your trip counter to zero(0) to measure the distance your going to travel in relation to fuel consumed,i hope your car doesnt have the engine check light on the dash!

So I tried resetting. I get mostly up to 18km/h and 6.4km/L. Also my engine check is on. I had it scanned and the mechanic advised it is the vanos we changed it but it still hasn’t gone. What do you suggest.
