I was really excited to get my hands on the brand new X3M Competition, if for nothing else to drive the new S58 motor. This is the first platform that features the motor for the upcoming //M models such as the G87 M2, G80 M3 and the G82 M4. I really saw it as an excuse to drive something, ANYTHING with that much talked about motor.. then I drove the X3M Comp!
If your M2 button is set to Sport Plus everything you better have a traffic defense attorney on speed dial. Incredibly quick, remarkably responsive and startling in how good it really is!
As was recently shown at the Sachsenring circuit in Germany, the X3M Comp is only 0.04 slower than the M4 Competition, and faster than the Lamborghini Urus! I feel like the X3 can the be overlooked model, the 'little brother' to the bigger //M's, especially the X5M Comp.
This is no little brother, but a fire breathing performance car with room for 5 plus a back full of groceries and a bike on the roof rack! (Secure all cargo for sure.. you are going to need to do so!)
I am really impressed by this car, not just the motor, and it deserves a first AND second look.

Two quick things about the BMW X3M: - The 2021 X3M introduced the full BMW digital cockpit instrument cluster. The prior model years had the old round instrument gauges. So if you don't like the digital cockpit, get last years model. - The 2021 X3M changed the ECU (engine computer), so you can't load a performance tune (yet). If you want to be able to load a engine tuning, get last years model. Considering how badly received the BMW M3/M4 G8X styling was...the X3M is a great option, using the same S58 M3/M4 i6 turbo Engine.

10:23 for the exhaust sound clip. So nice of the uploader to put guitar dance music over the sound of the engine for most of the rest of the drive, even in the tunnel.

I test drove one yesterday M40i, in VA after owning a 328x drive for over 3 years and I have to say I am in love. Its an amazing car. But it looks so subtle yet its a BEAST.

I just got one not gonna lie the only thing that annoys me is randomly if I’m driving and my arm is on the arm rest up the gesture controls always mistakens my hands and randomly stops the music

i have the 21 X3M40I the the 21 X3MC - The comp is set up for the track, literally. If you don't track it, your just paying for the badging and some black trim. The M40i is so quick off the line. Plenty fast enough and great gas milage.

Thanks! Certainly not heard of any systemic issues, and the new s58 motor is just sick! Like most BMWs I suspect you stay on top of regular maintenance, and you will be great!

@@BMWDIYGuy I’m in between an X3M40 and X3M. I had ordered an X3M40 and it has been delayed, so I’ve been given a pretty good offer on an X3M comp with the same specs as what you have in the video. The issue of ride quality and fuel consumption has me torn. I’m coming from an Audi S3 which I thought I could feel every pebble on the road, so I’m wondering how much worse it can be.

@@BMWDIYGuy I've driven the X3M Comp twice during BMW UDE events and absolutely loved it, but those 10 minute test drives didn't really provide any insight to the long term MPG or ride quality unfortunately.

@@zacvalentine2006 Couldn't agree more.. I got a long term loan of a new X5 lately and it was amazing. I would feel completely confident in the X3M myself if I was in that market.. just an incredible car.
