Harry Garage just did a fairly long term review/update on this, on 1000 something miles, with short and long trips more than 60% was run on electric. Tremendous car.

Good review, thanks. I believe you can think about all the efficiency you want - Modern Diesels, Old time Gas or "who knows" gas/battery hybrid system like this 45e (soon outdated I guess...) BUT the X5 as a car model is still an extremely good car to drive generally. We plan to keep our X5 for a very long time now - repairs, tires etc, all included. It's just a too good car to sell after 5 years...even a new car got every new fancy tech you'd dream off. Our experience...the X5 got everything you need for a LOOOg time -just grab one and enjoy :-))

02:54 units of torque is 'pound foot', as pounds force times the distance in feet not 'pounds per foot' as in pounds divided by feet. If people are buying stuff based on those numbers then yes, getting it right does matter. Strictly it ought to be Nm, Newton metres, in metric but hey...

I'm always baffled by how people still get excited about keyless entry. I've got ten year old and fifteen year old Renaults with keyless entry on both of them... And it doesn't matter how much stuff you're carrying you still have to put it down to open the door! 😂

@luckyOslevin
@luckyOslevin 4 жыл бұрын
Well, once that Leaf ran out of charge...you were out of luck. Meanwhile, the X5 will keep rolling for another 250+mi on gas and then will keep doing that the rest of the day after a quick 10min fuel stop. Plus it can tow 7200lbs, go through mild off road terrain, massage your bum, and carry 4 people in total comfort with individual climate zones and a wonderful panorama roof. So I’d say, yes - it is absolutely progress.

Well the X5 does weigh 60% more, plus is larger/less aerodynamic (more drag), plus bigger wheels/tires (more drag), plus a 4wd drivetrain (less efficient). Completely different car in all aspects. You’re comparing apples to oranges mate.

What is the environmental and health impact of producing the battery and disposing of it at the end of its useful life? We need regs for this (and batteries of all kinds), as I suspect the environmental benefit marketing is pure nonsense.

@@kevinmsft Hydrogen would be, but of course the mining industry has no interest in that because there is no money in it for them. So we’ve allowed the finite fossil fuel problem to be shifted to the finite precious metals problem and fallen for the feel good marketing nonsense of the EV industry. We did the same thing with cigarettes about a 100 years ago. Stupid humans.

Why not choose a pure electric like Tesla model Y or Id.4 or Skoda Enyaq instead (all will soon be available). Then you can go far on pure electric, and do something good by emitting a lot less CO2 and not pollute the air locally sometimes. For instance if you drive on gasoline/diesel in citys, people in the citys being next to you when driving, has to breathe the harmful exhaust smoke from your car. Plus the BMW X5 Hybrid 45e weighs 2,435 kg, Tesla model Y Long range weighs 2,003 kg, which is helping the model Y be more environmental friendly.

Teslas no longer qualify for tax credit. The BMW has arguably better build quality and interior, although this is somewhat subjective. Some areas of the country do not have robust charging networks to support full electric vehicles for long distances. Thus hybrids allow more flexibility.

Tesla is just ugly, rides is so harsh and interior is cheap and naff looking . Good electrical motor and range but its not a BMW dude. Skoda is ok. Full ev is not for everyone and waiting st charge stations is not good.

Interesting! Tell me more. I always like to hear both Negative and positive reviews. That 300kg battery weight must affect handling..? Even if they're down low. And is it much faster than my 730d to justify getting the 45e over the x5 30d..? I'd love a real world long term test between a 45e & 30d. Purchase price, acceleration, economy (including charging cost)... Still can't decide 🤔😬

@@Jacob-uk4kl Well, regarding choosing greener, I guess it's a personal decision. Totally respectable. From my side, I have yet to see a production-to-disposal analysis of the impact of batteries, not to mention the other human-rights related issues with lithium. I'm not saying it's not greener, but I'm yet to see end-to-end evidence. At least at a level that significantly contributes to saving the planet. If the issue is in-city pollution, then plug-in hybrids can achieve the same. BMWs even change to electric automatically when you enter a city zone. Regarding whether a BMW is a better car than a Tesla, I think hands down yes. Whether the X5 is a better car, I'd say yes^2. Teslas are nice gadgets, BMWs are nice allround cars. It all boils down to personal preference though.
