I think he was CLEAR about that; re-read the 'title.' This action PRESERVES the transfer motor (gears) assembly, such that the vehicle can be safely driven... pending that assembly being serviced/replaced.

It is the same exact system across all xdrive models in this generation of BMWs. The fuse will probably be different but you're looking for the fuse for transfer box on your fuse card.

Nope they are different e46 xi is a manual setup while the newer e series and f series are electric 4x4

E46 has nv124 transfer box, e83 has transfer box atc 400. Nv124 is mechanical, atc400 is electrically controlled with clutch plates

I've got an 04 F150 that I've disabled ABS on. Slamming on the brakes may make the brakes lock up, but it isn't going to stall the car.
