BMW Xdrive jerking, shuddering when turning from standstill .Transfer case calibration

This definitely works!!! Have a 2012 e70 xdrive35i with 90k miles on the stock transfer case. Did a fluid change and the jerking was not as bad. Saw this video and figured why not and try it out, the jerking was 100% gone, car drives like it was fresh off the lot. 10/10 Recommend!!!

Thank you for posting this! I changed the fluid and did the recalibration and it fixed my transfer case (an independent shop said a needed a new transfer case for $6000). My x6 was jerking very badly at all range of acceleration. It has been 2-3 weeks and is completely running smoothly

I bought this Gizmo and it worked great. Recalibrated right away and as soon as i started driving i could tell the difference. Now to replace my PCV valves and clean/replace my Vanos solenoids.

Hi there, will this work on a 2005 x3 (2.0d m47 engine)? Scaned with a creator c110 and i get 'calibration faulty' on the vtg module. No warning lights on dash but same symptoms. Please help!

Hi, your car is comparable new, so I would assume that with simple recalibration will be okay! If not you need to change the transfer case oil and do recalibration again. Thanks for the comment. Hope the video helped you!

Hello! I have a BMW f30 320xd, some time ago I received an error on board (Driving Stabilisation), the car now only enters comfort mode and I have traction only on the rear wheels, after some investigations I found the following code: 48097D (Box transfer - open clutch position, rear drive only), I mention that the failure occurred in the morning immediately after starting the engine. The car has no symptoms related to the transfer case, (ATC35L) it does not sputter or make strange noises. The tires are identical and match, the electrical fuses were checked, the new actuator was coded with ISTA, it worked without problems for 3 days, I tried a recalibration with ISTA but it no longer allows it, I have the old actuator open and it seems that the new models they no longer have gears, they are in an electromagnetic field, I also changed the oil, it was a little dark, brown The car is from 11.2013 and has 292000km, the first owner changed the entire transmission in 2016 under warranty in Germany I thought maybe the clutch in the VTG was worn out. If I change the clutch in the box, can the actuator be recalibrated, do they have to be replaced with a new one? I initially thought it was the actuator and replaced it, but the error reappeared after 3 days. Sincerely, Octavian!

Hi Octavian, and thank you for your comment! Could be the clutches but dod you try to flush the oil of the transfer case, at least 2 times. Once you do that you need to calibrate it again. If that doesn’t, transfer case need to be opened and inspected.

Thanks for the reply! I changed the oil only once, I registered the new actuator (bought from disassembly), it worked for 3 days and the error 440101 reappeared, I had the same error with the first one, and it won't let me delete it. It is possible to write something in its memory and it cannot be rewritten, it has to be recalibrated, are there other steps to follow to delete it?

it is working, I am using it 3 years.. my point is that overall you can check your car for error codes, and you can safe money instead of going to auto repar shop.. for diagnostic.. learn how to use it for a lot more stuff than transfer case calibration.. :)

that means, you didn’t delete your error codes or if you did, error code is still present and the system won’t let you calibrate

Do you do this calibration at operating temperature or cold? My judder only occurs when at operating temperature after an hour or so of driving under hard acceleration.

that was the moment I chaged the oil of the transfer case and re-calibrated. at the beginning that was happening every time I turn hard left or right.. then started to judder under hard acceleration..

Hi - I have a 2011 X5 idrive50 - My issue - I don't know if it is the same or not but when accelerating from 40 to 50 I get shudder as well as when I am going say 70 to 80 MPG once at steady speed, drives smooth. It is not a hard shift - but curious if anyone has this symptom. I have not tried to calibrate or change tmhe oil. More interested to know if this symptom could come from the Transfer Box. I have 100k Mi Any input is appreciated.

I’ve just purchased a 120D Xdrive and I noticed it was a little bit juddery under acceleration but only in Eco Pro mode. In sport and sport plus it was absolutely fine. It has 74k on the clock, is it worth getting the transfer box oil changed and can a 2013 be recalibrated? I’ve checked the tyres and they are the bmw star preferred Bridgestone potenzas. Is it possible that whoever owned the car before the last person fitted incorrect tyres for the Xdrive system and that has knocked the transfer box out of sync?

You cannot calibrate the 2011 2012 bmw X5 with the ATC 450. There is not a reference to this in ISTA +. The other trans yes but not the ATC 450...
