Never drive the car without the stiffening plate. Nugget of gold. Thanks for upload. Awesome 👌

***super duper Pro-Tip*** Those plastic splash shields’ “edges” should be “tucked-in” in the stiffening plate’ edges. And not covering the edges of the metal plate. You should be able to take out that metal plate w/o taking the plastic shields. right? I love that vacuum trick! So cool. I like the oil funnel also. You’re awesome man. You just earned another Bimmer super duper pro to subscribe.

Hey bud! Thanks for subscribing! You are right that the plastic shield is tucked around the stiffening plate and it does come off without having to take the metal plate off. The vacuum trick is just fun to do LOL :)

Never in a million years would I have thought of that vacuum trick to save the oil. I have to do this same job on my wife's '02 Z3 MCoupe. Even though the vacuum trick is tempting I'll just wait for the next oil change to do it.

It was fun to try the vacuum trick and share the results. I think it's smart to plan this replacement with your next oil change 😀

Great vid but I’m curious I have a 2010 e90 4 cylinder engine that I recently serviced I put 6 quarts with 1 marvel mystery oil thinking I’ve over filled it but the gauge stays on about 75 percent no matter how much I added could this be a bad oil sensor it never says low or inactive or triggers oil light but I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to use 4.5 quart how is it at about 7 and still on 75 percent
@AskTheCarExperts Жыл бұрын
Sounds like the sensor. You will want to drain and measure the correct level. I have seen 4 cylinders with 10 qts. They smoke a lot!
@deaneybwoy4332 Жыл бұрын
@@AskTheCarExpertsthanks for the fast reply but I read in the manual that if the sensor was bad or needed to be replaced that it would say inactive isn’t that the case or not all of the time?
@AskTheCarExperts Жыл бұрын
It can also read inaccurately. You would not get errors because the system is sending a false reading.

Great Video. My only question is why does the car have an oil level sensor and a dip stick? (I own a 2011 BMW X3 F25) With your very helpful video I now able to proceed and change my oil level sensor.
@AskTheCarExperts Жыл бұрын
Thank you. The oil level sensor is also an oil condition sensor and it helps determine oil condition for condition based service interval.

Do you need to deal with the codes afterwards or no need to ?

Always a good idea to clear codes. Test drive and then rescan.

@AskTheCarExperts10 ай бұрын
You can just get away with a new gasket if the sensor is good.

Can oil leal around the oil level sensor on an e84 x1 2012? I left my car on my drive for a few days and from just above half on the dipstick, the oil was near empty after 4 days without driving in this cold weather as well. There was oil all over the bottom. Jet washed the under side and cleaned it all but cant pin point the leak as after driivng the oil is in alot of places. My mechanic changed the crankshaft rear seal when doing the timing chain and changed rocker cover gasket. Now he thinks its the dipstick housing so is replacing that. Is the dipstick low enough to leak oil at the bottom whilst the engines isnt warm over 4 days? Or can it leak fast enough to deplete oil within a few hours when oil was hot as i didnt check oil level over the 4 days. Since from diagrams the oil level sensor looks at a lower lever than the dipstick
@AskTheCarExperts6 күн бұрын
@koysiimiah3320 Hello, The oil level lipstick has an o ring at its base that can leak if not seated correctly. Also if the dipstick has corrosion it should be replaced. The oil level sensor is lower and it also has a seal that is replaceable. I would expect you would see a lot of oil on the driveway if you had a large leak.

My oil level won’t give me a reading on the dash.. any idea.. I have a 2008 x3 6cyl… when I do oil check it just keeps recycling… I make sure my car is running while doing oil check
@AskTheCarExperts7 ай бұрын
Hello Miles, If it times out when doing the oil level check. This is usually due to fluctuations in the oil pressure. It can be from a failing oil control valve but I have also had it be from a failing oil pump.

Not what I wanted to hear however thank. I guess it can’t be a bmw if it doesn’t have any gremlins.

Oil level show inactive on my car
@AskTheCarExperts11 ай бұрын
Hello, I have seen this on a few BMW's. If it starts to read and then stops then this may be an oil pump issue. If it reads inactive all the time then diagnosis of the oil level sensor is needed.

@@AskTheCarExperts in my case the sensor I got it from FCP wasn't working and I got the message. When I installed back the original one that previously was removed from my car the message disappeared.
