The measuring, the detail, the math involved in this fabrication is mind boggling. And you’re doing it single handedly. It’s simply amazing! I would have been completely overwhelmed long ago.

Great planning, always remember the man who built a 12 foot wide boat inside a garage with an eight foot doorway...

Thanks very much Mike and re. your story - I actually knew a man who did (started but did not finish his dream project) exactly this! He even had 3D digital plans showing how much of his house would need to be dismantled to remove the boat! His procrastination over many years and wife meant that it was in fact the boat that was dismantled! Free Wisdom for the attentive! 🙂

Congratulations on this milestone Bruce.....the bulkheads look beautiful and bulletproof......and will no doubt contribute significantly to the structural rigidity of Mistress.......steel does flex....especially when you consider the massive forces at work on the hull in a big seaway......lateral support is super important........your care and fastidious installation will hopefully prevent the dreaded continual "squeaking" that can bring a sailor to his wits end!! Good work mate....the beer is well deserved....cheers

Thank you VERY MUCH Max for your fantastic comments, they are MUCH appreciated hey! And yes every piece of plywood and timber that is going in to Mistress IS ADDING structural stiffness, even though none of it is actually structurally integral. One day we will have a "cheers beer" (or few) together! 😀👌

awesome job!! looks great! but as you know- that dust mask does nothing to protect you from the fumes- need to upgrade and extend your sailing life!
@BuildingSYMistress5 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for your comments 45acpHardBaller much appreciated! Re. the P2 masks that I use, jfyi here is an Australian gov't post about them - "The P2/N95 mask is a particulate filter personal respiratory protection device, capable of filtering 0.3µm particles1. It complies with the AS/NZS 1716:2012. N95 classification means the mask complies with USA testing requirements P2 classification indicates compliance with European testing requirements." I do also use a full face respirator mask when using products that specify these.

Sounds like an amine blush. Epoxy can develop a real waxy surface on curing in cooler and damper conditions. Make sure you get that off as it prevents a good bond with fresh epoxy ( but you probably already know that. : ) If you want a bible on epoxy work go to the West System website and download the free Gougeon Brothers on Boat Construction book. While much won’t apply since you’re building a steel boat it makes a great reference book on all things epoxy. Cheers

just an observation, a dust mask will not help protect you from chemical fumes, you need the correct tool for the job you are doing, then you will live long enough to enjoy the fruits of your labour. great job but be safe!
@BuildingSYMistress5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment vonhench and I appreciate your concern, however the P2 masks that I use do actually filter chemical fumes and so do help. Thanks again.

looking great . one question why not using lamello ( buiskquit) connection, would make the joins even stronger
@BuildingSYMistress5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bruno and thanks for your comments. Yes I understand your good suggestion, however 1)I don't have a lamello power tool and 2)the epoxy glue that I am using bonds stronger than fasteners and is stronger than the plywood itself.

Looks like she is coming together, pretty soon you won't be able to see any foam! I have been looking at a lot of used boats lately, it looks so disgusting when they don't cover the spray foam up after a few years it just gets black and covered in boat grit, not a pretty sight!
@bevantweedie51295 жыл бұрын
Renegade Show I just hope it doesn't rust under all that spray foam.Seen a few steel boat rust out under the insulating foam when working at the slip way in the 90s.
@RenegadeADV5 жыл бұрын
@@bevantweedie5129 it should be alright, just as long as the deck is sealed up tight, for that to happen the foam cells have to be open or the foam has to separate from the hull.
@BuildingSYMistress5 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much sir, I do appreciate your good comments!
@BuildingSYMistress5 жыл бұрын
@@bevantweedie5129 Thanks for your comment Bevan and like everything in life, time will tell. I did a lot of lengthy thinking on this subject and again like everything, there is no perfect 1 solution, all things considered. The spray foam's in recent times are different from earlier types and the newer 'closed cell' types cannot absorb moisture/water which makes a significant difference. Thanks again.
