Lots of fun to watch. When doing the video with your phone, it's almost like flying a drone. Thanks for sharing.🙂

Referring to the aluminum smelter as "Intalco" is correct for 1973 -- it wasn't bought by Alcoa until 1998. It was built in 1966 by Intalco, a subsidiary of Alumax that seems to have been founded for that specific purpose, and Alcoa bought Alumax in 1998, from which time Intalco LLC was an Alcoa subsidiary. I guess they run each plant as its own corporation for bankruptcy purposes. Even after purchase, it was still referred to as the Intalco smelter, including by Alcoa itself. The smelter was mothballed in 2020 because of high electricity prices and the fact that the local power district couldn't supply enough power to run the plant at more than about a quarter capacity. It fully closed in late 2023.

I have to ask. What are the 4 white columns with tan tops next to the engine storage track?
@muchfunwithtrains17 сағат бұрын
Those are sanding towers under construction. We plan to finish building them in 2025, so stay tuned for videos about that!

Question #2. Do you run track cleaning cars or do it by hand? Just curious.
@muchfunwithtrains17 сағат бұрын
Yes and yes. Once a year or so we run a track cleaning train around that has both alcohol dispensing wiper pads and a vacuum cleaner car. And last month I cleaned the wheels on all the switch engines. Cleaning engine wheels is almost more important than cleaning track!
