I think you haven't read enough into their struggle in India where they resided, for 100s of years they were always referred to as outsiders and enemies. They were often in wars and due to it, had to migrate from place to place. So, yes they were prosecuted by Indians. fyi.

@@Olaberg13 beg to differ. In fact you need to do some reading up. Judaism in India dates back to ancient times and is among the first foreign religion to come to India. Dates back to the time of the Ancient Kingdom of Juda. They continued to come in several waves. Some of the lost tribes found their way here too. Because this was a land that accepted diversity and assimilated outsiders. There may have been a stray incident of resentment through the centuries. But it’s a blatant lie that they had to fight wars for their existence in India. Would like you to quote a single such incident from recorded history. India is an exception. And every Jewish leader has maintained that. Even today, young Israelis flock to Goa when they finish their compulsory military service. Because India is one of the safest places for them to unwind. Read up please. Maybe you should visit India too and find out the truth.

@@kdblrThe Record of their "Fighting Wars against Enemies " is a reference to some Enemy Tribes that surrounded that community and threatened them those Thousands of years ago around the Kashmire Mountain . There are accounts that they have still had to protect themselves from some of those ancient adversaries. However , that does not take away the incredible respect ,unity, acceptance and Co- existance in Brotherhood towards Jews around India and the overwhelming Historical Acceptance of other branches of Jewish communities by most other Indians all over, This Amazing Country of India . Indeed , our most Ancient links of Acceptance and Brotherhood between our peoples resound back and forth across the river of Time even as other Empires and Indigenouse Nations have fallen and Disappeared. We do remember ...and value each other.

I am Jewish, and have met these people in Israel.I was impressed with their sincerity, but I thought some were a bit fanatic. Many of the religious Zionists in Israel repeat the story that BnaiMenashe come from ancient Israelites, and I'm very dubious about that, but at the same time I appreciate them as sincere devout people who want to be Jews and contribute to Israeli society.

@ProphetLuong India is a vast diverse country where Aryan, Dravidian and Mongoloid races have intermingled for centuries. The Bnei Menashe settled for centuries in Mizoram in the extreme north-eastern part of the country bordering Burma. The Mizos are predominantly Mongoloid and hence their Burmese/ Thai looks. Trust me they are as Indian as the darker skinned ones..:)

I admire the Bnei Menashe as individuals, and accept them as fellow Jews (just as a Jew is required to accept and love all righteous converts). As a group, I also respect them, & think in the end they will strengthen Israel and the Jewish people with their faith and hard work. I hope they don't face racism in Israel. On the other hand-all that said--I am not at all convinced by their claims to truly be descended from the tribe of Menashe. It seems very farfetched. India does have real Jews, Bnei Israel and Baghdadi, who made aliyah to Israel after its creation in 1948, but these Kukis or so-called Bnei Maneshe were Christian up until about 25 years ago. The evidence of their ancient connection is very slight & scanty, despite what the people here are saying. At the same time, once they convert to Judaism, learn Hebrew, adopt Jewish ways, they are 100% Jews.

@kdblr The finest point that one can make which illustrates how Indian Muslims are a liberal breed is the fact that in 1971 Bengali Muslims of erstwhile East Pakistan rebelled and broke away from Islamic Pakistan to create Secular Bangladesh. And the disagreement was over the subordination of bengali (language and culture with a Hindu origin) by Urdu (Muslim lingua franca). Bangladesh's national anthem is written by Tagore, a Hindu Bengali poet who is also the author of India's National Anthem

I know where you are coming from. The fact of the matter is that #1, they are till today are treated as outsiders in India by the neighboring villages and people. #2, All the Jews have united and created the State of Israel and called upon all Jews to return to the Holy Land to form a united Zionist country, which they did. Now, they need more people to build and defend the country and their identity. Your African theory is not believed by many. That theory just came to live due to it #1 them finding the oldest human skeleton/fossil in Africa, and some other reasons that is convincing to many. Now, they have found older human remains in China, we can't keep on changing our origin, every time an older skeleton is found. However, we can connect ourselves with our ancestors within each group. For example most north indians, Iranians (those claim to speak Farsi), Pakistanis and Bangladesh people are from the same root, but you people don't have a sense of unity, otherwise, you would unite as well. Hope this helps you with the cause and reason.

@ProphetLuong As explained to you we are a land of divergent views. I am quoting the empirically established and accepted point of view. As regards the Mongoloid invasions of India, the Mongol invasion is pre-dated by the Ahom invasion of Assam in 1228. The Ahoms came from Northern Thailand. Interestingly Lachit Barphukan, the Ahom Commander stopped the Mughal's (Mongols) on their march eastwards at the Battle of Saraighat in 1668 just outside modern day Guwahati

Not just Judaism but Jainism, Zoroastrianism (Parsis), Syriac Christians, Tibetan Buddhism (Dalai Lama), Shiah Islam (Pakistan didn't accept them they wanted a pure Sunni country although the Shiahs in Pakistan stayed there). India even protect the later Sikh sects like Namdhari and Nihangis against the mainstream. In fact the only time India has attack was as self-defence when the minority religion were themselves powerful and aggressive.

Albeit there are still tribes in Africa who have Asiatic looks, who could be the remainder of those Asian migrants from 1000s of years. There is actually some who believe there were groups of Asians who migrated from the North into the Anatolia and then they split into 2 groups, 1 remained in Anatolia, and another migrated south into the Africa. This migration happened about 4000-6000 years ago.

I agree that the most important thing is returning to Judaism. But when the Jews of Yemen and Kurdistan arrived in Israel (1948-1950) their culture was not respected. They were forced to learn to eat, drink, sing, dance, and dress in the Ashkenazi way. The Rabbis who "taught" them disregarded Yemenite customs, even though it predated "Orthodox" Judaism by 1000 years.

@thelordofassholes Before that, for thousands of years, the north east people lived much like the Burmese, Thai, Cambodians, etc in tribal societies. Hence, there are currently Mongoloids in India. Sadly, although they are educated as Indians, there is discrimination present against them for their Asiatic features and different culture. But truly, India is a very diverse country with many subcultures, languages, traditions, etc... I hope that helped somewhat.

I don't buy the claims that they are descended from the Tribe of Menashe as Michael Freund says, but according to the Jewish tradition, once someone sincerely converts to Judaism, one is a Jew like every other Jew. We Jews don't traditionally proselytise, and some of the motive to convert these folk is undoubtedly political (to increase Jewish pop. in Israel). However, those who convert and move to Israel will intermingle/intermarry with other Israeli Jews, and they're sincere.

By that definition we would never want India to become a Hindu nation. Our version of utopia would have been achieved if we find synthesis in Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Jains, Jews and Zoroastrians respecting each others differences and evolving a unique culture based on the similarities - we are almost there :)

No those ppl, and including you are all Romans/Indo Europeans. Go read abit of history and you'll know that Middle eastern indigenous were all dark skinned ppl, & they looked the same as Egyptian Indigenous aka Pharoahs. Now go find a Pharoah statue, & see who they resemble most? Those thai looking ppl or you? I beg to differ pal, they resemble them 100 times more than you. Therefore they're the lost tribe, & not today's Palestians or you to begin with! U stole it, now Jews took it back!
