I never realized that I cope with laughter (and probably would have denied it) until Jan 6th when I just couldn't help laughing my ass off all day at the absurdity of it all, and my now-wife was very concerned that I wasn't taking it nearly seriously enough, and now looking back on it in retrospect I feel surprised at myself for not taking it seriously, and realize I was coping with laughter.

This can also be interpreted differently. This is is one of the best things about Bo's comedy, his jokes are largely down to interpretation and can be understood in multiple ways. This is another reason why I love Bo, you come to the comment sections and his fans give you a whole new perspective on things too.

0:31 Love how Bo Burnham takes the line "What the f*ck is going on" from a genuine question, to one he adds a cutesy "um" before it, and then treats it like a comedic punchline, before adding in a laughtrack. It's just one example of how he's constantly switching between being genuinely concerned to focusing on putting on the act and trying to get paid and attention.

@DanteYewToob
@DanteYewToob 9 ай бұрын
I think everyone has this wrong. This is Bo Burnham. The joke if the whole song is some white guy trying to “fix the world” with comedy. So the joke about saving a seat is making fun of how everyone thinks over political correctness will actually solve anything. Policing comedy and “sanitizing” jokes isn’t how you do true equality and inclusion… jokes should be safe as long as they’re not directly intended to hurt others. So the point is that it’s a lazy feeble effort to save the world through fake political correctness because that’s easier than actually addressing the real problems. Don’t bother facing the roots of actual racism and bigotry, just don’t allow people to make jokes about Jews or people of color. That will fix everything! It’s simultaneously kinda messed up, but also true and thoughtful. Right where Bo lives in his comedy.

I've been undecided as to how much of the special was performative (though if it was, it still undoubtedly came from a real place), but it feels to me that it may have started out as a more traditional, structured comedy show that gradually became more chaotic and existential. Then again, it's possible he designed it that way specifically from the get go. I honestly don't know which would be more impressive.

@@lucakeltie2491 Semantics, really. For instance - Rent and Grease are classified as Rock Musicals, even though the greater majority (if not the entire playlist) isn't what one would generally classify as "rock music". It's not a particularly definitive term in that respect.

Only slightly. Average doors are around 80inches in height - the door behind him is slightly smaller than him as shown at the end of the special so it's around maybe 73inches tall. Bo is 196cm (77inches). He looks tall af in most of the musical skits because of camera angle and framing techniques, camera is positioned around the height of his waist and pointing slightly up, this is common in making yourself look taller and guys use it all the time. Perspective comes into play a lot too since the door is quite far back.
