A feature on the Swedish pipe maker Bo Nordh made by the Swedish Television. The maestro passed on in July 2006. I just made some english subtitles to this documentary because I thought it was something you'd like to see.

@VSLDavid Thank you David. Anyone who tried their hands on making a pipe from a kit can appreciate just how truly brilliant these artisan pipe makers really are. It's great just watching them do their magic... and dream about one day reaching a fraction of their level. :) Cheers, - Mike

@pipeheadOR Yeah, he had an eye for reading the grain that I find amazing. All the interviews with him that i've read show that he was a real down-to-earth guy. Sad that he's gone. Cheers, - Mike

@dohngl Thanks Dean. Well, they say that fancy gadgets doesn't make a better pipe - it just cuts the time making one. I know Bo could spend months on a single pipe just to get that perfect finish. You know as well as I do how much work that's involved in that stage. ;) But yeh, I'm sure Bo kept a few secrets to himself. Cheers mate, - Mike

you could make a corn cob pipe with just a knife. I've made a few of them that way.

Well, if you plan to make a pipe out of briar wood I have to warn you that this is a very tough wood. You *can* use a knife, but it has to be razor-sharp... and even then the wood tends to chip easily. The problem with pipes is that they need to be made of really hard wood so that they doesn't burn out so easily as softer wood. I recommend saving up for at least a rasp and a good file. They doesn't cost very much.
