The most difficult part about playing a board game like this is the fact that you would have to explain each of the mechanic to someone new, who hasn't played the game yet

with this particular game, it isn't that difficult, since the only three things you need to know are build a tile, build a power station, or discard a tile for money, that's it, it's very accessible

Among the Stars is a favorite here. The ship building gives you a lot more choices to wrestle with than most drafting games, and the aggressive stuff/powers gives it teeth. Plus it just looks damn good on the table. Super underrated game.

I've had this game since the Kickstarter and I've played it a lot. My games have been almost exclusively 2-player, which I think works pretty well. (In the 2-player variant, both players draw a new card and then discard one from the hand before passing it on to keep it interesting.) I never play with the confrontational rules though, for me the game is fine without it.

I used to own this game, but sold it off when I got the 'sequel' Fields of Green. FoG doesn't have the asymmetric alien powers, which is the one thing I miss, but otherwise I prefer it. There's an engine building element, where you're turning water into food and food into cash and cash into points. Setup is quicker because you don't have to construct the decks like in AtS, and scoring at the end was a lot quicker for my group than scoring every turn.

Story: The other day I was walking around the mall with some of my friends from my high school. We saw a tiny little shop that sold games and in the back were like... hella board games. Me being me I pretended to be an expert on board games and I guess I was a little too loud because the guy working their personally walked me to the back and showed me something that was just delivered to the shop. It was an endgame themed board game and I dead stared at this man tell me a half hour story about his family playing this game. And at the end I politely took a picture with my phone and he gave me his card, AND THIS IS THE POINT WHERE I REALIZE THIS MAN IS THE *OWNER OF THE FREAKING STORE* I proceed to bolt out of there and I have never even thought about the game since. I’m ordering it now that I remember about it...

Huh, when I saw you hold up the box my immediate impression was "this reminds me of that tile-laying game where you build space stations to be as effective as possible by Fryxelius" (checked bgg and its actually called Space Station) Then it's a tile-laying game where you build a space station to be as effective as possible...

And that makes me wanna check this out, because Space Station was always one of those games that felt like "this is a great setup, and if they made a Space Station 2 I'd love it, but it's also really clunky with odd pacing".

Can you please review 'Battle of Guandu' for the next board game review? I was always fond of authentic historical board wargames, and then one day i found this piece of art in the board game store, but then i wasn't sure if i should buy this or not, due to limited information on the Korean internet community(yes, i am that kind of guy who never trusts market reviews). For me, this game replaced 7 Wonders for the most part. Both have hand drafting as a primary mechanic and Among the Stars feels a bit better. 7 Wonders is still great, just preference. And the expansions add more rooms so that each game you play with a different mix of rooms, thus you have to change your strategy each game.
