Skip was experimenting with that shape for the 69 World Championship in Puerto Rico. He was working on three boards and was taking two. I asked for a board for the Makaha championship in 68 and he gave the 18 inch pin tail you were showing or one very similar to the one in your story. Rode the north shore for three weeks on that beautiful board. Most amazing waves were Sunset at 15 ft with only 5 of us out Angie Reno was with our crew with 15 of us staying together on the North Shore. Also in the group was Neail Norris Dale Dobson HJ Henry. Great trip. That was 52 years ago.

My father in law shaped for G&S at the same time. He was the night shift shaper that worked the same stall as Skip did during the day. Same tools. He is unknown to most, but the true OGs of La Jolla all know Tom Davidge.
