This is the single best video I've ever seen talking about the philosophy behind pedals, and their technology. What a genius guest, and his playing is incredible! I love Ningen Isu, such a good band
The crazy thing about Ningen Isu, aside from how incredibly GOOD they are and still went under the radar for so long, is that they are 35 year veterans with the enthusiasm and simple joy in making music of teenagers forming their first band. Frankly the world of music is better with them in it.

I had no idea this dude played in that band. He sure can shred! What I love most about him, is that he made his own pedals taylored to his own style. And when the other pedals couldn't hack it, he found a way around those limitations. Truly inspiring!

I'm not a guitar player but recently started messing with pedals and some smaller synthesizers. This guy really knows his stuff. Fascinating.

和嶋さん、楽しそう〜幸せそう〜内容はさっぱりだけど、見てるだけで引き込まれます。エレキギターにこれだけ感動したのは初めて。I am touched by his passion and love to the music. What a gifted guy! This video makes us smiling :-))
That was the most informative 43:30 I've ever had the honor to experience. Thank you so very much for including the English captioning. I've only recently discovered Ningen Isu and Shinji Wajima. In addition to learning the technology, I feel as though I've learned quite a bit about the man himself. This video was very enlightening. Thanks to everyone that helped to make it happen.

Actually understanding his gear and building his own pedals....Yeah.....Also, I for one am glad that he and his band don't sound like western groups...they've got their own niche and it suits them well...Great player with great tone....and no reverb or delay.....

yea, when i play Ningen Isu's "Dodarebachi" Wajima always makes me feel he brought Stevie Ray Vaughn's spirit into his guitar.
A masterclass in rock guitar pedal effects and the nature of Jrock. Wajima san is a grand master of his craft many younger guitarists could learn so much from him. I am glad to have found the music of Ningen Isu.

17:15 : "All the Pedals are completely analog, like the phaser, uni-vibe and overdrive. Those are made with parts from the 20th century. There is almost no modern technology in it. In short, our sound style is based on the old school rock when i was in my youth. British hard rock from the 1970s. After that it started changing to heavy metal. That type of hard rock sound, plus a bit of heavy metal flavor." Please, never abandon that heritage. I am not saying you shouldn't try out new things, but always remember and embrace that old school vibe. 18:30 "So i wanted to put a Japanese identity into it. It's a band that shows an example of how Japanese people rock. So, in fact, Ive been singing with Japanese lyrics for a long time." And please never abandon this either. Your musical skills put you up there with many hardrock and metal legends, your japanese singing and styles set you apart and make you stand out. (At least for a western guy like me).

This setup looks extremely fun and versatile. Great options for tone and punch for pushing solos. I also really admire the tinkering aspect to create a smaller uni-vibe. Like a mad scientist 👨🔬 creating the perfect monster. I respect tinkerers because I’m one myself. I love pushing the electric guitar toward new discoveries. Rock on!🤘

I could watch hours upon hours of Wajima-san messing around with his gear and playing a few tasty licks while doing so. Thanks for putting this together and including English subs!

That "amp cleanup" pedal is such a great idea! I play through a single channel high gain amp, and have to turn the gain on the amp down each time for a clean tone. Now I am using the Mooer Gas Station pedal as a "clean" preamp before the amp. But I would really like something that doesn't color my amps tone, much like his own pedal. Loved this video, and thanks for the Eng subs.
@EarthQuakerDevicesJP4 жыл бұрын
It's discontinued but we had Black Eye that could do the same kind of job. Can't promise it would be a good match with your amp tho. Thanks for watching!

I get by with the volume knob to clean up the signal but going through a compressor pedal to even out the volume loudness. The compressor keeps me from having to use as much gain in the first place for soloing so my solos stay nice and punchy. If that’s not enough then you can use an EQ for your clean tone with the overall gain turned below zero. No need for a fancy sounding boutique pedal.

Just when you are starting to lose faith in youtube recommendations. This happens.
Thank you for sharing your tone passion. Your pedalboards and tones are great. I also love fuzz and the combination of sounds one can tailor with pedal fxs is just magical. It is worth it to test the best pedals and find our own guitar tones. Keep rocking.
